About The Position

The YouthBuild Director of Finance will support the mission of the YBPCS by overseeing all financial activities and, in coordination with senior leadership, set the financial goals and strategy for the school. This position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. The Director of Finance will be in charge of all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, auditing, and internal controls. This is a captivating role for a seasoned accounting professional with knowledge in GAAP, nonprofit accounting, finance, and grants management. The Director of Finance, as a good communicator and thought partner, contributes vital insights to strategic and business planning, as well as exceptional analysis and informed recommendations to senior leadership and the Finance Committee. The Director of Finance is a great manager and team builder who is always looking for ways to improve processes.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is required.
  • Three to five years experience in an analytic environment related to accounting.
  • Proven working experience as an Accounting or Finance Manager and thorough knowledge of GAAP related to nonprofit entities and extensive experience in nonprofit accounting and financial reporting.
  • Highly proficient in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred), payroll software (Paylocity preferred), and experience using large scale automated financial systems (general ledger, budgeting and reporting) and spreadsheets/databases required.
  • You have the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines.
  • Adept at managing peak work periods, and changing circumstances; Tenacious in meeting deadlines and willingness to work late, if necessary, to meet reporting and audit requirements and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit financial and grants management preferred.
  • Three years of solid supervisory experience and a CPA is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning and analysis required to provide strategic decision support to the School’s leadership.
  • Maintain a growth mindset and, in collaboration with senior leadership, contribute to the evolution of the School.
  • Establish and maintain effective financial controls for all systems to protect the School’s assets.
  • Assess and analyze the progress of business initiatives, report results, and recommend course corrections where appropriate.
  • Conduct cost/benefit analyses.
  • Develop methodologies and models for budgeting and reporting.
  • Coordinate, direct, and manage the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and variances analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new regulations, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports.
  • Advise management of actions and potential risks.
  • Monitor and oversee compliance with cost allowability, financial reporting and other requirements for restricted grants (federal, state and local), contracts and donations.
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance regulations for all Federal grants.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close process.
  • Publish timely monthly and annual financial statements; Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting; Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
  • Build and update revenue, cost and cash flow forecasts on an ongoing basis.
  • Calculate annual cash flow requirements and modify monthly based on current needs and information.
  • Oversee financial statement, grant funder and School District audits with support of the Senior Accountant and working closely with the external financial statement auditors.
  • Oversee the issuance of the Form 990 with support from the Senior Accountant.
  • Manage all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, G/L, Payroll, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Prepare and communicate financial information, including monthly financial reports, analysis, budgets and updates to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Develop presentations and analytical material to be presented to the leadership team and organization on the School’s financial status and projections.
  • Negotiate contracts in conjunction with other departments and provide financial oversight.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor the Finance team and other staff as the department evolves.
  • Develop and document business processes, accounting policies, and procedures to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Keep up-to-date on information and technology affecting finance and accounting to increase innovation, cost–effectiveness, and ensure compliance.
