About The Position

Serv, a global executive recruitment partner, is hiring on behalf of a confidential client for a Director of Finance. Our client is a highly recognized, multi-channel retail business entering a transformative stage of growth and operational evolution. The company is preparing for a capital raise that will support geographic expansion and long-term scalability. Leadership is seeking a finance leader who can build the infrastructure required for the next chapter of growth while serving as a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team. This is not a maintenance role. It is a build role designed for a hands-on operator who thrives in complexity, enjoys architecting systems from the ground up, and wants direct ownership over financial transformation and business impact.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience with direct ownership of a finance function
  • Experience within multi-unit retail, multi-channel commerce, specialty retail, restaurant groups, or similarly inventory-driven businesses
  • Proven success building or rebuilding financial reporting frameworks, including unit economics, contribution margin, EBITDA reporting, and free cash flow modeling
  • Strong FP&A leadership experience with direct ownership of forecasting and decision support
  • Deep experience with inventory accounting in multi-location environments
  • Experience managing cash flow, lender relationships, debt service, and covenant reporting
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
  • Experience with mid-market ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or comparable platforms
  • Strong AI fluency with demonstrated use of tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot in financial workflows and analysis
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial insights into business decisions
  • Ability to operate as both a strategic leader and hands-on builder in a fast-moving environment
  • Portland-based or strongly committed to relocation for an in-person role

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting a capital raise, investor diligence, board reporting, or investor-grade financial reporting
  • CPA designation, ideally active in Oregon or Washington
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker
  • SQL fluency or experience working with data/reporting systems
  • Proactive and accountable
  • Thinks strategically and executes consistently
  • Communicates with clarity and confidence
  • Brings a positive, growth-oriented mindset
  • Highly organized and dependable
  • Embraces learning and feedback
  • Cares deeply about doing great work

Responsibilities

  • Leading the full finance function and serving as the CEO’s primary financial partner
  • Rebuilding the financial reporting framework to provide real-time visibility into unit economics, contribution margin, EBITDA-structured P&L reporting, and free cash flow
  • Establishing and leading a weekly financial reporting cadence for executive leadership
  • Driving forecasting, financial planning, and decision-support processes across the organization
  • Supporting the company through a future capital raise and investor-readiness process
  • Managing cash flow, working capital, debt service, covenant compliance, and lender reporting
  • Creating scalable finance systems and operational infrastructure to support expansion
  • Overseeing inventory accounting across a complex, multi-location, multi-SKU environment
  • Partnering cross-functionally with leadership to improve operational and financial performance
  • Using AI and modern financial tools to improve modeling, analysis, reporting, and workflow efficiency
  • Supporting the transition and overlap with the current Controller before assuming full ownership of the function
