Director Of Finance & Accounting

Practice By Numbers•Seattle, WA
•$160,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Practice by Numbers is hiring a hands-on Director of Finance to build and stabilize the finance function as the company grows. The role will establish a reliable monthly close, practical policies and controls, a trusted forecast, and disciplined cash management. It is a startup position on a lean team: the director will set direction and execute the work, initially using outsourced partners and adding in-house headcount as the business needs it. The position reports to the CEO and is based in the Greater Seattle Area, Washington. Practice by Numbers provides an all-in-one business platform for dental practices, using data, automation, and AI. It is a profitable, sales-led vertical SaaS company approaching $20 million in annual revenue, with most revenue from monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe. The company’s teams work in the Seattle area and at an engineering hub in India. The director will own finance operations and accounting, global budgeting and planning, decision support, investor and transaction finance, revenue and go-to-market finance, cash and collections, tax and compliance coordination, and the finance systems stack. The role also serves as the finance voice with potential investors and helps keep the company’s financials and metrics ready for diligence.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 3 years leading a finance function or team.
  • Proven experience building the finance function at a vertical SaaS company, from limited infrastructure to a repeatable close, effective controls, and reliable reporting.
  • Experience speaking with potential investors and direct involvement, including diligence, in at least one fundraise or transaction such as an equity raise, debt financing, or M&A.
  • Experience leading an annual operating plan (OP1) and a consolidated budget across multiple entities or countries.
  • Experience managing expenses and budgets for India development centers and cross-border US–India operations.
  • Strong command of subscription SaaS metrics, including MRR/ARR, churn, cohorts, GRR/NRR, and CAC payback.
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close, US GAAP, and subscription revenue recognition under ASC 606.
  • Experience writing finance policies and procedures and ensuring they are followed.
  • Ability and willingness to execute hands-on work on a lean startup team.
  • Bias toward action, including advancing projects, making decisions with imperfect data, and following through.
  • Experience managing outside CPA, tax, and bookkeeping partners, including multi-state sales tax work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Produce a monthly leadership KPI pack and translate financial results into recommendations.
  • Model scenarios for hiring pace, pricing changes, and churn.
  • Present the company’s financial story, model, and metrics to potential investors.
