About The Position

The Director of Finance for the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education will manage financial operations for the College and collaborate with Departmental Units and the University Administration to meet the strategic goals of the College and the University. This position will assist the Dean and Associate Deans with the strategic management of college budgets, including UA Foundation Funds, fee and revenue funds, state-appropriated funds, auxiliary funds, and grants for the College. This position will provide leadership, training, and counsel to academic departments regarding finance and administration operations. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (any field)
  • Two (2) years of experience in higher education or a related work environment.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to handle and oversee multiple projects and tasks at one time
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Experience in Higher Education Finance and Administration
  • General knowledge and understanding of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Arkansas State DFA Policies and Regulations
  • Previous experience in personnel management and training.

Responsibilities

  • Finance & Budget Strategy Assist the Dean, Associate Deans, and College Departments with the development and execution of strategic financial planning for the college, departments, and independent programs
  • Maintain the various budgets of the College and the Office of the Dean including UA Foundation accounts, state-appropriated funds, fee-generated and revenue funds, grants, and various other designated and auxiliary accounts
  • Maintain budgetary oversight and management of all departments and programs within the college under the supervision of the Dean
  • Oversee the development of the college’s annual budget through collaboration with the Dean, Department Chairpersons, the University’s Budget Office, and the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
  • Assist with the development, review, and revision of policies and procedures within the college as needed
  • Ensure the college and its departments and programs are in compliance with all relevant federal and state laws and UA System policies.
  • Finance & Administration Operations Process all financial operations at the college level and for the Office of the Dean, including but not limited to: procurement requests, travel requests, hiring and human resources operations, payroll inquiries and operations, and budget management
  • Oversee the P-Card and Travel Card programs for the college and ensures compliance with state and university procurement regulations
  • Provide direct finance support and training to chairpersons, faculty, and administrative staff of the college as needed
  • Fill-in as temporary financial operations support for the College Departments in the event of loss of essential administrative personnel
  • Compile both regular and ad hoc financial reports from multiple data sources as requested by the Dean and other stakeholders
  • Act as a liaison between the college and the Financial Services division of the University.
  • Personnel Management Oversee position management within the college through processing of PAPs and ensuring that budgetary support is in place when required
  • Track all temporary positions in the college including adjunct faculty, graduate teaching and research assistants, and hourly and work study employees
  • Ensure the college and its departments and programs are in compliance with all relevant federal and state employment laws and UA System policies
  • Oversee Assistant Finance Director.
  • Grant Management Provide college-level assistance to faculty with grant application and management, including budgetary review during the application process, general financial operation during the life of a grant, and producing various reports as requested
  • Oversee the budget and usage of indirect costs generated from grants within the college
  • Act as a liaison with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Additional Responsibilities Act as a college representative on various committees as appointed
  • Assist with the development and revision of policies and practices at all levels of the university as requested
  • Act as an advisor to the Dean, Associate Deans, and Department Chairpersons regarding the financial and administrative operations of the college and departments as needed
  • Act as an ambassador and an advocate for the University and the College outside of the primary responsibilities of the position.
