About The Position

As the Area Director of Finance, you’ll oversee financial operations across multiple hotels within a region or portfolio while serving as a strategic business partner to hotel leadership teams, ownership groups, and corporate stakeholders. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and enjoys balancing strategic finance leadership, operational partnership, portfolio analysis, compliance, forecasting, and team development. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Hospitality Management, or related field required.
  • 7+ years of progressive hospitality finance, accounting, hotel operations finance, or multi-property financial leadership experience preferred.
  • Previous Area Director of Finance, Regional Finance Leader, Director of Finance, Hotel Controller, or multi-property hospitality finance leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of hospitality accounting, hotel financial operations, forecasting, budgeting, labor management, payroll oversight, and operational finance strategy.
  • Experience managing multi-property financial reporting, audits, balance sheets, reconciliations, cash controls, and compliance initiatives preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to partner operationally across multiple hotels and leadership teams.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience using hotel accounting systems, PMS platforms, Excel, business intelligence tools, and hospitality financial reporting systems preferred.
  • CPA, MBA, CHAE certification, or related professional credentials preferred.
  • Ability to travel regularly between hotel properties and operational locations as needed.
  • Flexible availability including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and operational support as required.
  • A passion for hospitality, leadership, operational excellence, financial strategy, and driving exceptional portfolio performance across multiple properties.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial operations across multiple hotels including accounting oversight, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit compliance, labor analysis, and operational finance strategy.
  • Partner closely with General Managers, Area leadership, Operations teams, and ownership groups to drive portfolio performance, profitability, and financial accountability.
  • Review and analyze monthly financial statements, forecasts, variance reporting, operational KPIs, labor metrics, and business performance trends across assigned hotels.
  • Support hotel leadership teams with budgeting, forecasting, labor planning, expense management, and financial decision-making initiatives.
  • Monitor portfolio-wide revenue performance, operational expenses, purchasing controls, inventory management, and departmental profitability opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, audit requirements, ownership reporting, tax regulations, and company financial policies.
  • Lead financial audits, balance sheet reviews, reconciliations, cash controls, operational reporting, and risk management initiatives across assigned properties.
  • Coach, mentor, and support Directors of Finance, Controllers, and hotel accounting teams to strengthen financial performance and operational partnership.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Management, Sales, Human Resources, and Operations teams to align financial strategies with hotel business objectives.
  • Support hotel transitions, acquisitions, openings, renovations, capital planning, ownership presentations, and portfolio growth initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of hospitality accounting systems, PMS platforms, procurement systems, financial reporting tools, and hotel operational technology.
  • Travel regularly between properties to conduct operational reviews, financial audits, leadership meetings, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Help foster a collaborative, analytical, and business-focused culture aligned with Sonesta’s People People philosophy.
