About The Position

The Director of Finance/Chief Financial Officer, under the direction of the Executive Vice President of Operations/COO, is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information, responsible for the supervision and control of the general accounting function, and for financial statement and report preparation. This administrative staff position, although under supervision of the Executive Vice President of Operations/COO, requires responsibility in decision making, directing, and coordinating the College accounting function and supervision of the Business Office functions and staff.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in accounting procedures and computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets, in a supervisory capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Proficiency in technology including administrative accounting software systems and spreadsheets, and Jenzabar super user and Infomaker user abilities.
  • Self-disciplined, self-starting individual capable of operating in a multiple task environment.

  • CPA, or MBA in Business/Finance preferred
  • Higher Education experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an effective team within the business office, implement short- and long-term goals and objectives consistent with the college mission.
  • Direct supervision of accounting assistants in the business office. Includes ensuring employees receive sufficient orientation and training. Responsible for scheduling and performance evaluation.
  • Prepare cash flow projections and determines the amount of temporary excess available for investment in accordance with College policy.
  • Prepare and control the annual budget for the business office.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with College policy, federal and state regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Stay currently informed and increase knowledge in areas relating to the position and with Jenzabar and Infomaker updates and changes.
  • Monitor accuracy and make necessary modifications to the accounting information system ensuring integrity of financial transactions.
  • Prepare internal and external financial reports as required of the college, Board of Trustees, and the Foundation.
  • Monitor, establish and implement internal controls and procedures throughout the College, reviewing internal control procedures on a periodic basis, and performing internal audits as needed.
  • Prepare annual financial reports, supporting notes, and management and discussion letter as required for the College and the College Foundation, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards. Preparation includes necessary worksheets for documentation, such as depreciation schedules, capitalization of fixed assets, etc.
  • Coordinate annual fiscal year audit process with external auditing firm to maintain proper accounting practices.
  • Monitor and manage outstanding debts for the College, as well as coordinate collection efforts in conjunction with the Attorney General’s Office.
  • Maintain chart of accounts to match the organizational structure, requirements for GASB financial reporting and fund accounting reporting. Set up proper ledgers and journals, and monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable, subsidiary accounts, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare budgets, create budget controls, and prepare reports necessary to monitor budgetary needs and revenue projections.
  • Monitor and review all financial commitments as to funds available preparing necessary reports related to the cash function, as well as maintain investments and all banking requirements of the College.
  • Coordinate reporting to State and Federal agencies, including OBR Quarterly Statements, HEI, IPEDS, SB6, 1099 forms, and 1098T forms.
  • Coordinate with college insurance carriers to ensure all claims and possible claims are being dealt with and that policies are being updated to reflect changes in college operations.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Faculties in preparation and submission of state controlling board requests.
  • Prepare and monitor record retention regulations of the College as they relate to financial records.
  • Participate in state and national meetings and committees as required.
  • Participate in governance committees. Attend meetings as needed or required.
  • Perform related duties and directly related activities as assigned.
