About The Position

At Episcopal Community Services (ECS), employees work with participants who may be experiencing homelessness, behavioral health conditions, substance use challenges, and other difficult life circumstances. While this work is meaningful and mission-driven, it can at times be stressful, demanding, or unpredictable. Employees are expected to exercise sound judgment, remain aware of their surroundings, follow established safety, communication, and de-escalation procedures, participate in all required trainings, and promptly report incidents, threats, injuries, or unsafe conditions, in accordance with ECS policies and procedures. Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Finance, the Director of Finance and Planning is responsible for the overall financial management of ECS. Working very closely with Program and Administrative Directors, the Director Finance of Planning promotes continual developments and improvements in financial management against respective budgets.

Requirements

  • Required advanced quantitative and Excel skills.
  • Prior experience in grants management and financial planning and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experiencing supervising staff to include: selection of staff, training, development, performance evaluations, progressive discipline, taking appropriate disciplinary action and knowing when to partner with Senior Leadership and Human Resources.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related fields, MBA preferred.
  • Must secure finger image screening and annual TB screening.
  • Demonstrate behavior that supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Adhere to all program, funder, and organizational policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and model integrity, fairness, and ethical business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the monthly invoicing of all grants and contracts in accordance with funder requirements. Ensures all invoices are timely and accurate. Promotes timely payment from funders.
  • In coordination with VP of Finance, develops Annual Agency Budgets and periodic (monthly or quarterly) financial forecasts.
  • Manages program and agency budgets to maximize revenue and identify potential areas of improvement and cost savings.
  • Uses financial modeling to simulate financial scenarios and forecasts.
  • Present potential scenarios and outcomes to VP of Finance and/or management team as appropriate, with an eye to avoid financial pitfalls, recommend solutions and improve the financial health of the agency.
  • Works with Program and Administrative Directors to promote continual improvements in financial management against budgets.
  • Conduct monthly financial assessments with each Director and generate reports to be submitted to VP of Finance and the senior management team as appropriate.
  • Works in coordination with to Senior Controller to ensure accuracy of financial records and adherence to financial regulations and accounting principles.
  • Works with the Development department and Senior Controller to ensure restricted private donations are spent in accordance with donor restrictions, and financial reports to funders are accurate and timely.
  • Provides the lead role and coordination for all compliance audits from both public and private agencies.
  • Works in coordination with Senior Controller and his staff as required to ensure successful financial audits for both ECS and its affiliates.
  • Manage and provide ongoing supervision and training to finance personnel.
  • Manage any other tasks as assigned by VP of Finance.
