About The Position

Utilizing a working knowledge of financial planning, managerial accounting, and current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), this position supports the financial operations of Charis Bible College and its departments. The key responsibility will be the ongoing provision of financial and operational advice to the Sr. Executive Director of Charis Bible College (senior Charis leadership) while maintaining informative and communicative relationships with the CFO and the Controller. This also involves performing moderately complex financial planning, operational, and accounting work, including preparation of operational and cash forecasts, analysis of financial statements and operational reports, and supervision of Charis accounting personnel, inclusive of maintenance and review of financial statements, records, and reports, along with review responsibilities in classifying, posting, balancing, reconciling, and summarizing student financial transactions. This also involves setting up and maintaining controls and records of financial information and transactions in coordination with the Controller’s department.

Requirements

  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must sign the Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or comparable work-related experience.
  • A Charis Bible College student or graduate is preferred.
  • Must pass all required checks.
  • 7+ years of financial planning, accounting, and math, along with broad finance and budgeting experience, is required.
  • Experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Experience managing finance and accounting functions (financial planning, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) within a diverse, division-based entity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and records assets, liabilities, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing financial information.
  • Assist with certain electronic payments and banking transactions.
  • Review and approve, edit or reject all Charis purchase order requests in Sage Intacct.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting and planning process, comparing actual results to budget with a view to identifying, explaining, and correcting variances as appropriate.
  • Reviews, challenges, and understands trial balance reports, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
  • Review accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervises accountants in preparing financial records and ensuring that student financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Supervise the Charis Accounting staff with the monthly close and reporting process.
  • Supervise the Charis Accounting staff with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger transactions, reconciling entries, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Review and analyze College and Departmental budgets, assisting College staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with the CFO and Controller teams to provide analysis and strategic reporting.
  • Make recommendations to ensure the efficient use of resources.
  • Assist with technical support for accounting software and related systems.
  • All other duties as assigned.
