About The Position

Nexstar Network is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes to drive strategic decision-making. This role leads our Controller, who leads and supervises the accounting team. This role ensures accurate data, consistent reporting, and clear financial insights through dashboards and executive reporting. They will partner cross-functionally on pricing, compensation, and special projects, connecting financial performance with operational outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent experience, with an advanced degree preferred. This role requires 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including at least 2–3 years in a people management role. Strong fluency in financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis is essential, along with comfort with large data sets and BI/reporting tools. The ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance audiences, including executives and board members, is crucial. This is a hybrid role, requiring 2 days per week in the office and travel as needed for company meetings. The compensation range is $150,000-200,000.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience
  • At least 2–3 years in a people management role

  • Comfort with large data sets and BI/reporting tools
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance audiences, including executives and board members

  • Ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to conduct presentations and speaking.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Lead the Controller and the accounting team.
  • Ensure accurate data, consistent reporting, and clear financial insights through dashboards and executive reporting.
  • Partner cross-functionally on pricing, compensation, and special projects, connecting financial performance with operational outcomes.
  • Own periodic reforecasting and projection models, incorporating trend analysis and approved assumptions.
  • Support the annual budgeting process, including structure, consolidation, and reporting (with specific focus on evolving programs such as RGP).
  • Maintain forecast models and reconcile outputs to actual results in partnership with Accounting.
  • Own and maintain pricing, contribution margin, and compensation models.
  • Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to support leadership decisions.
  • Ensure models reflect how financial and operational elements interact across the business.
  • Support completion and ongoing refinement of the financial and operational data layer.
  • Validate data flows, reconcile sources, and help ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Create and maintain standardized internal reporting views, dashboards, and flash reports aligned to leadership needs.
  • Drive completion of finance initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Accounting and Operations as needed.
  • Maintain documentation, assumptions, and version control for key models and reports.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to align projects, incentives, and KPIs as the organization matures.
  • Stabilize capacity planning and workload management to reduce noise and variability.
  • Lead change in a disciplined, well-communicated way that reinforces clarity, trust, and follow-through during periods of transition.
  • Lead the Finance & Accounting team, including regular 1:1s and intentional leader development.
  • Lead with Nexstar’s guiding principles by modeling professionalism, accountability, respect for shared processes, and system-first decision-making.
  • Coach and develop the team, holding them accountable for performance, quality, and team health.
