The Director of Field Education serves as the primary administrator and instructor for the Vanderbilt Divinity School (VDS) Field Education Program. This program is the praxis centerpiece of the Master of Divinity program and an experiential option for the Master of Theological Studies program, integrating theological reflection with supervised ministry across various settings like congregational, chaplaincy, nonprofit, and higher education. The Director is responsible for teaching the two-semester Field Education Seminar and advanced Field Education courses. Key administrative duties include mentoring and training students, supervisors, and Field Education seminar leaders, as well as cultivating partnerships for student placements. This role is crucial in developing and implementing policies that shape the field education experience, fostering a supportive environment for students to explore their vocational paths. Through innovative programming and strategic partnerships, the Director contributes to the mission of the Divinity School and the broader professional community.
