About The Position

The Director of Faith Formation is responsible for the implementation of weekly youth programs including design of curriculum, leader and volunteer training, and special events of the middle school and high school groups with an emphasis on preparing the middle school youth to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. This position also oversees the management of our Religious Education program and Sacramental preparation for the parish including: Quarterly Parent Formation and Domestic Church gatherings, retreats and rehearsals for the Sacraments. This ministry position designs and implements catechetical and relational programs for youth that meet the guidelines of the Archdiocese.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in theology, catechesis or similar academic discipline.

  • Collaborative skills that serve to motivate volunteers.
  • Knowledge of how to use technology and new media to communicate the Church’s message.
  • Be a practicing Catholic, registered in a Catholic parish or Catholic faith community, and embraces in word and deed the Church’s teachings on faith and morals as articulated by the Church’s magisterium.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating curriculum development and implementation to meet objectives set forth by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas for Middle School and High School youth ministry and religious education
  • Plan and implement youth activities for High School students
  • Prepare all lessons in advance for each semester and summer months.
  • Plan and implement the two-year Confirmation Preparation for students and families.
  • Communicate with parents and teens about all opportunities and publicize to the parish.
  • Communicate with parents and teens regarding curriculum and requirements.
  • Plan and implement retreats, summer trips and social opportunities.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to be part of the leadership and support team with an emphasis on young adult leaders and parents.
  • Train leaders, volunteers, and catechists prior to the beginning of each semester.
  • Provide monthly support and training sessions with leaders and volunteers.
  • Deliver weekly communication with leaders and volunteers.
  • Ensure that all leaders and volunteers are VIRTUS trained and that they participate in on-going formation.
  • Work with school staff to maintain accurate records (attendance, permission slips, etc.).
  • Work with staff to schedule all room needs.
  • Prepare yearly budget for all Youth related activities and follow set budget while following all Archdiocesan accounting procedures.
  • Participate in Archdiocesan youth ministry meetings and communicate and plan with regional youth ministers.
  • Participate in on-going faith formation and educational opportunities.
  • Attend all Parish Staff Meetings.
  • Work with staff to coordinate all social media and publicity for above programs.
  • Report all necessary information to Virtus coordinator and civil authorities.
