About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Director of Facilities to lead the strategic planning, maintenance, and lifecycle management of a large-format facility portfolio. This leader will oversee facility operations, capital improvement projects, preventative maintenance programs, vendor management, and repair services to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations across all locations. The Director of Facilities will partner closely with Operations, Construction, Real Estate, Finance, Procurement, and Asset Management teams to develop long-term facility strategies that enhance the customer experience, maximize asset performance, and protect the organization's physical investments. This role requires a proactive leader with extensive experience managing large-box facilities, building systems, and multi-site maintenance operations while driving operational efficiency and cost optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive facilities management experience supporting multi-site operations.
  • Experience managing large-box retail, hospitality, restaurant, distribution, healthcare, or commercial facility portfolios.
  • Proven experience managing preventative maintenance programs, capital planning, and vendor networks.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, roofing, structural systems, and building automation systems.
  • Experience managing large operating and capital budgets.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), or similar professional certification.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms and facilities management software.
  • Knowledge of energy management and sustainability initiatives.
  • Multi-unit retail, restaurant, hospitality, or franchise experience.
  • Experience supporting new construction, remodels, and expansion initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute enterprise-wide facilities management strategies for a portfolio of large-format locations.
  • Oversee preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance programs across all facilities.
  • Ensure facilities remain compliant with company standards, safety regulations, and local building codes.
  • Establish maintenance standards that maximize equipment uptime while minimizing operating costs.
  • Monitor facility condition assessments and prioritize maintenance investments based on business needs.
  • Develop annual operating and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Create multi-year capital replacement plans for major building systems including HVAC, roofing, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, flooring, and building infrastructure.
  • Prioritize capital improvement projects based on asset condition, operational impact, and return on investment.
  • Partner with Finance to forecast capital requirements and manage project expenditures.
  • Lead sourcing, selection, negotiation, and performance management of national and regional service providers.
  • Develop service-level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure vendor accountability.
  • Evaluate vendor performance, cost effectiveness, response times, and quality of work.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic sourcing and cost savings while maintaining service quality.
  • Oversee daily repair and maintenance activities across all locations.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs to reduce emergency repairs and equipment downtime.
  • Utilize facilities management software to monitor work orders, asset performance, and maintenance trends.
  • Analyze maintenance data to identify recurring issues and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Construction and Real Estate teams on new store openings, relocations, remodels, and expansion projects.
  • Provide facility expertise during design reviews to improve long-term maintainability and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate facility turnover and post-construction warranty management.
  • Support project closeout and asset documentation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, ADA requirements, fire and life safety standards, environmental regulations, and local building codes.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.
  • Lead facility inspections and corrective action initiatives.
  • Reduce operational risk through proactive maintenance and safety programs.
  • Manage multi-million-dollar operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor maintenance expenditures and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
  • Develop reporting and analytics around maintenance spend, asset performance, and vendor productivity.
  • Drive initiatives that reduce total cost of ownership across the facility portfolio.
  • Lead and develop regional facilities managers, maintenance personnel, and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish performance goals and succession plans for the facilities organization.
  • Coach and mentor leaders to strengthen organizational capability.
  • Collaborate with Operations Leadership, Construction, Real Estate, Procurement, Finance, Asset Management, Safety & Risk Management, Information Technology, and Executive Leadership.
  • Serve as the primary facilities subject matter expert supporting enterprise operational initiatives.
