About The Position

This position will work at both the Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie Campus. The Director of Facilities Planning and Management, provides executive leadership and management for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of all campus facilities, infrastructure, utilities, roads, and grounds. The position exists to ensure that college facilities are safe, functional, code-compliant, cost-effective, and capable of supporting the institution’s instructional and operational mission.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of general construction.
  • Knowledge of construction design techniques and principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Excellent fiscal management skills with ability to formulate and manage operational budgets.
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes, Occupational Safety and health (OSHA) rules and regulations, college policies and procedures, safety practices and application of safety practices.
  • Knowledge of and skills in strategic planning; operations management; financial management; and analysis, problem solving and decision making.
  • Knowledge of material, methods and the appropriate tools to construct structures and buildings.
  • General knowledge of electronics, electrical, plumbing and other support systems required.
  • Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

  • Experience managing physical plant operations in a higher education, governmental, or institutional setting.
  • Experience coordinating capital repair or remodeling projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in facilities operations and staff supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provides executive leadership and management for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of all campus facilities, infrastructure, utilities, roads, and grounds.
  • Ensures that college facilities are safe, functional, code-compliant, cost-effective, and capable of supporting the institution’s instructional and operational mission.
  • Manages new construction, remodeling, or repairs.
  • Formulates and manages operational budgets.
  • Interacts with architects, technical advisors, and technical surveyors.
  • Puts together estimates of costs for building and remodeling changes.
  • Translates organizational goals and strategies into operation plans for Facilities and Safety Division.
  • Structures maintenance and appearance of the organization.
  • Generates interest, commitment, and support from others for new projects or college initiatives.
  • Creates energy and builds a sense of ownership for change.
  • Attempts to understand others’ resistance to change and builds a supportive environment in times of change and transition.
