About The Position

St. Dominic Savio and Holy Family Catholic Schools seek a Director of Facilities and Grounds to serve both campuses. The Director of Facilities and Grounds fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by assessing and maintaining facility needs related to safety, interior and exterior building structure and systems, grounds, furnishings, fixtures and equipment. The Director of Facilities and Grounds assists the President, faculty, and staff by ensuring that the school is well maintained for its educational purpose. The Director of Facilities and Grounds collaborates with the President for the overall facility needs and project management and budget planning. The Director of Facilities and Grounds collaborates with the Principals as needed. The Director of Facilities and Grounds has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the President. Ministerial Character Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities. Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent field experience in facilities and maintenance
  • Facilities and maintenance experience preferred
  • Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
  • Must meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration
  • All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Supervises the facilities staff so that weekly, monthly and seasonal cleaning and maintenance for both schools can be scheduled effectively
  • Supervises grounds care of athletic fields and landscaped areas
  • Implements and manages digital system that staff use for maintenance requests across both schools
  • Ensures that the various components of the alarm system, water well and irrigation system are in working order
  • Implements a routine maintenance plan that follows the school’s Preventative Maintenance Plan
  • Obtains all required City of Austin and Williamson county permits, as needed
  • Ensures that all school vehicles are properly maintained according to vehicle maintenance recommendations, that vehicles hold required inspections, and that all needed repairs are completed in a timely fashion
  • Maintains annual required inspections for sprinklers, irrigation, fire extinguishers, elevators, and backflow devices
  • Reports areas of concern to the President; collaborates regarding school needs, budget planning and program oversight
  • Manages facilities budget effectively, seeking required approvals and staying within budget
  • Coordinates school activity preparation and summer cleaning schedules with the Principal
  • Supervises and follows the appropriate safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, stripping floors, etc.
  • Reports unsafe conditions immediately to the President and Principal
  • Assigns and schedules the set up and clean-up for meetings and special events
  • Maintains and regulates the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
  • Coordinates and facilitates schedules and work of vendors
  • Applies universal precautions in cleaning practices support infection control by treating all human blood and certain human body fluids as if they were known to be infectious for HIV, HBV and other bloodborne pathogens.
  • Complies with MSDS regulations
  • Maintains the security of issued keys, secures buildings, turns off lights, sets thermostats
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Supervises, directs and evaluates the performance of the Facilities and Grounds Worker
  • Collaborates with others to enhance the work environment
  • Assists in the selection and training of the custodians
  • Oversees the procurement of supplies and equipment needed throughout the building
  • Conducts emergency clean ups and repairs as needed
  • Supervises the moving of furniture and equipment as directed by the administration
  • Meets with and monitors work of outside contractors
  • Communicates maintenance and repair issues to the President and Principal
