The Director of Environmental Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for environmental services, linen/textiles, and associated support services across the Cayuga Health, including Cayuga Medical Center, Schuyler Hospital, and designated ambulatory care locations. The role is accountable for standardizing processes, driving financial performance, improving environmental hygiene and patient experience outcomes, and ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective service delivery. Success is measured through system-wide quality metrics, cost savings achievement, regulatory compliance, and patient experience improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Facilities Management, Hospitality Management, or related field OR minimum 5 years equivalent progressive leadership experience
- Minimum 5 years' environmental services, hospitality, or facilities management experience, including at least 3 years in a multi-site healthcare leadership role
- Minimum 3 years' experience managing budgets, financial analytics, and cost reduction initiatives in a healthcare or institutional environment
- Minimum 3 years' experience leading teams of supervisors/managers with demonstrated success in staff development, engagement, and performance improvement
- Demonstrated expertise (3+ years) in infection prevention practices, environmental hygiene standards, and EVS operations including chemicals, equipment, and regulatory requirements
Nice To Haves
- Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) certification or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire
Responsibilities
- Lead system-wide strategic planning, operational execution, and standardization of EVS services (environmental hygiene, waste management, linen/textiles, and related services), ensuring measurable improvements in quality, safety, and patient experience
- Develop, monitor, and achieve annual financial and productivity targets, including cost savings, contract optimization, and performance metrics
- Build, mentor, and hold accountable EVS managers and supervisors, implementing standardized training, competency development programs, and performance management systems across all facilities
- Collaborate with infection prevention, clinical leadership, and support services to implement evidence-based environmental hygiene practices and ensure regulatory compliance and audit readiness
- Drive system-wide initiatives including product standardization, workflow optimization, discharge cleaning efficiency, and linen management programs, ensuring adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement
Benefits
- Standard Rate of $90,000 - $125,000 per year plus benefits
