About The Position

The Director of Engineering provides leadership and professional oversight for the City's engineering operations, guiding the planning, design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of critical infrastructure projects. Serving as the City Engineer and Floodplain Administrator, this position leads the Engineering work unit, manages budgets and contracts, coordinates with City departments and outside agencies, and helps ensure the City's infrastructure and development standards meet regulatory and community needs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
  • Undergraduate accredited degree in Civil Engineering or related field and five (5) years of responsible engineering experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid Missouri Professional Engineer's license.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's license valid in the state of Missouri.
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal, State and local Floodplain rules.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Engineering work unit, including staffing, training, scheduling, and evaluations.
  • Serve as City Engineer and provide engineering guidance on City projects and operations.
  • Oversee the planning, design, construction, and inspection of City infrastructure projects.
  • Review development plans, plats, and construction permit applications.
  • Oversee sewer, water, stormwater, and MS4 programs.
  • Serve as Floodplain Administrator and manage related permits, records, and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the City with FEMA, SEMA, the Planning & Zoning Commission, and other agencies and committees.
  • Manage the Engineering budget, purchasing, capital projects, and contracts.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate with City departments, agencies, contractors, and residents to address engineering needs and concerns.
