About The Position

Switchfly is hiring a Director of Engineering to influence and inspire change in our organization. We build the loyalty and travel booking platform that powers some of the world’s largest airlines and financial institutions — a complex, regulated, multi-tenant SaaS environment where the work is real and the stakes are high. Cross-functional partnership is deeply meaningful to us. We focus on high-value products that solve clearly identified problems, designed in a sustainable way so that value continues to be delivered in the long term. We are looking for a leader who thinks about where the puck is going — someone who can see how AI-driven discovery, conversational commerce, and new ecosystem models will reshape travel and loyalty, and build toward that future while delivering in the present. We partner with market-leading clients in the travel and financial spaces to deliver solutions that are tailor-made to fit their needs. Building partnerships between internal teams and with our clients will be key to your success. If you are energized by owning outcomes — not just delivering tickets — and want to operate at the intersection of engineering leadership and product vision in a company where your decisions visibly matter, this is a great role for you.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required
  • 5+ years leading software engineering teams in Agile delivery environments, with a track record of owning outcomes rather than just managing process
  • A foundation in software development — you’ve built and shipped production software and retain enough technical depth to credibly challenge architectural decisions, evaluate engineering tradeoffs, and earn the respect of experienced developers
  • Experience operating in a regulated compliance environment — PCI DSS, SOC 2, or equivalent — where security and process discipline are non-negotiable
  • You are comfortable owning product direction — partnering with Product Owners to shape what gets built and why, not just how fast it ships
  • You delegate effectively and be detail-oriented when required
  • You are inquisitive and eager to learn — always looking for better approaches and bringing outside perspective to the team
  • You have hands-on experience driving AI-assisted and agentic development adoption at team or company scale, including the hard parts: security guardrails, policy definition, cultural resistance, and measuring real productivity impact
  • You understand how B2B2C businesses create value — where the client, the end user, and the platform’s commercial model are three distinct things that must all win. Consumer-only product instincts, however strong, are not sufficient here
  • You bring an innovative, action-oriented energy to your work — you move fast, form opinions, and drive change — while having the maturity to operate within the realities of a complex, regulated, enterprise platform
  • Your colleagues are inspired to follow your lead

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with how travel, loyalty, or adjacent commerce ecosystems actually operate — at the level of business model and customer behavior, not just APIs — will meaningfully accelerate your impact.
  • Familiarity with any part of this stack is helpful; deep expertise in all of it is not expected.

Responsibilities

  • Own product outcomes for your teams — not just delivery. You will define what success looks like for the areas of the platform you own, set decisive OKRs, and hold your teams accountable to business results, not just sprint velocity
  • Servant Leader to SAFe/Scrum cross-functional teams, with responsibility to mentor, manage, and lead direct reports
  • Coach and elevate Product Owners from backlog managers to outcome-oriented thinkers — challenging them to connect features to business value, client impact, and measurable results
  • Identify, mentor, and grow senior development leads into development managers — strengthen the management layer beneath you
  • Drive AI as both a product capability and a development practice — shaping the vision for AI-powered platform features while partnering with existing advocates to accelerate agentic coding adoption, establishing the guardrails, tooling standards, and culture that make it a force multiplier within a PCI Level 1-compliant SDLC
  • Encourage best practices in development, testing, DevOps, and software architecture — including direct ownership of backend service patching and security remediation cadence
  • Interface with all parts of the business, including executive leadership at Switchfly and clients — translating strategic intent into engineering scope with clarity and appropriate pushback
  • Guide personal and career development of your people
  • Ensure teams work together and that each person has a voice
  • Foster a culture that encourages learning, trust, and bravery
