To manage the operation and administration of the Engineering Department to ensure all hotel structures, furnishings, and equipment are optimally functional and aesthetically pleasing. This role oversees the Maintenance operations for the hotel, implements policies and procedures for the Maintenance Department, and ensures compliance with company standards. The position involves preparing and monitoring the annual budget, managing departmental expenses, and ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property through inspections and preventive maintenance programs. It also includes developing, coordinating, and monitoring guest rooms, public spaces, equipment, and PM programs to ensure reliability, safety, and comfort for staff and guests. The role participates in public area walk-throughs with management and is responsible for the overall management of Preventative Maintenance Program, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatments, pneumatics, control systems, water systems, boilers, refrigeration, and compressors. Additionally, the Director of Engineering manages inventory, purchasing, and cost control of supplies, determines appropriate staffing levels, and schedules staff. They perform daily audits to ensure quality standards, inspect projects and areas, and interpret specifications and policies while enforcing safety regulations. The role also involves working closely with the General Manager and department managers, meeting with architects, contacting contractors, and overseeing the Safety Program, including emergency evacuation plans and fire/life/safety device testing. Training on safety, OSHA, EPA, HASMAT, Asbestos awareness, Blood-borne pathogens, Right to Know law, and ADA law is a key responsibility. The position also participates in the hiring process, assists with staff transaction forms and performance appraisals, recruits and selects candidates, provides orientation and training, communicates performance expectations, and offers coaching and counseling. Familiarity with company policies and benefits, and practicing safe work habits are essential. The role ensures facility compliance with government and regulatory laws like OSHA and Cal-OSHA.
