About The Position

The Director of Engineering is responsible for coordinating and operating all R&M & Utility expenses in an economic, legal, and safe manner. This role involves managing Birchstreet for all R&M expenses, participating in month-end financial processes and forecasting, and supervising a comprehensive maintenance and preventative maintenance program for public spaces, guestrooms, and equipment. Work requests and preventive maintenance are managed in Synergy. The Director coordinates with other departments to maintain general conditions and adhere to safety, health standards, and legal requirements. This position also involves recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, and disciplining engineering associates in coordination with the Director of Associate Services. Responsibilities include recommending capital budget projects, obtaining bids, overseeing contractors, managing special permits and licenses, and ensuring timely and accurate completion of work by external vendors. The role requires controlling schedules, staffing, and payroll for the Engineering team, maintaining personnel, utility, and engineering records, and adhering to all company safety and security policies. Additionally, the Director is responsible for ensuring adherence to quality expectations, identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost-savings, scheduling and facilitating monthly department meetings, coaching associates, and completing performance evaluations. Attending all company-required training and championing the Omni / Power of One / Power of Engagement culture are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ hospitality Engineering experience required or in a similar field.
  • CPO and EPA certifications are required. If currently do not possess, it will be required to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Expertise in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building management, and all life safety systems pertinent to hotel operations.
  • Knowledgeable in safety use for: power tools, general engineering tools and equipment, pool pumps and filtration systems.
  • Knowledgeable in ADA requirements, power, water and sewer distribution, blueprints, fire codes and fire protection.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must possess effective teamwork and guest relations.
  • Demonstrates understanding and application of management approaches for work direction, motivation, performance management, and disciplinary action.
  • Ability to ensure administrative functions and duties are assigned and completed, according to Omni standards, including timekeeping, vendor contracts, and personnel action forms.
  • Possess Relevant industry certifications and licenses as required by local authorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain personnel records, utility logs, and engineering records.
  • Follow all company safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions; complete safety training and certifications.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures; ensure clean uniform and professional personal appearance; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards; identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings.
  • Responsible for scheduling and facilitating monthly department meetings.
  • Effectively coach and counsel associates as needed and complete performance evaluations.
  • Attend all company required training.
