Director of Engineering
About The Position
The Director of Engineering will lead engineering teams across various disciplines in plants to ensure optimal performance. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve company goals, overseeing budgets and project planning, and driving engineering performance for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Director will create and implement operational plans to meet customer and quality standards, identify strategies for improvement, and provide clear direction for engineering teams. Responsibilities also include developing and enforcing best practices, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations, analyzing asset utilization, and leading/motivating engineering teams. A key aspect of this role is partnering with HR to develop leadership programs and build a high-performing workforce.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Business or related field.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in Engineering management; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- 5+ years of experience in a position of leadership, including team development and management, is required.
- Prior experience in an engineering role required.
- Multi-Million CapEx Management experience.
- Ammonia Refrigeration experience.
- Food Industry experience required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SAP.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- High level of written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to travel to other locations. (50% of the time).
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineer License a plus.
- Meat industry background a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering teams in various Engineering disciplines across plants to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, HR, Safety, etc.) to achieve company goals.
- Oversee and manage Capital and Maintenance budgets and project planning.
- Drive engineering performance to meet operational goals efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Create and implement short-term and long-term operational plans to meet customer and quality standards.
- Identify and implement strategies to improve operational performance with internal and external resources.
- Provide clear direction on processes, schedules, and priorities for engineering teams.
- Develop and enforce best practices for engineering development.
- Ensure facilities comply with internal and external engineering standards and regulations.
- Analyze Asset Utilization and Optimization by utilization data and structure models on optimal replacement timing as well as methods to increase asset longevity.
- Lead and motivate engineering teams to achieve business objectives and deliver solutions on time and on budget.
- Partner with HR to develop leadership programs, manage performance, and build a diverse, high-performing workforce.
