About The Position

Turnkey is building the infrastructure for the future of autonomous economies, providing programmable guardrails that enable autonomy without sacrificing control. Founded by a team with deep experience in scaling financial infrastructure, Turnkey is creating the trustless, programmable foundation for the autonomous economy. We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Platform Engineering organization, which is responsible for the infrastructure powering and scaling Turnkey's core product. This senior leadership role reports to the CTO/Co-Founder and involves owning both technical direction and people leadership. The ideal candidate will be excited about the potential of web3 and have a sincere desire to help redefine decentralized development.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing engineering managers and/or leading a multi-team engineering org (not just individual teams).
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and security architecture, with the ability to lead in-depth technical discussions and make final calls on tradeoffs.
• A track record of operating and scaling infrastructure that demands high availability, performance, and a strong security posture.
• Excellence at holding a high bar on software quality and engineering process, even while moving fast.
• A healthy amount of paranoia :-)

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience working in fast-paced crypto/web3 and/or FinTech companies, especially with exposure to security-critical infrastructure.
• Experience scaling an infrastructure org through a significant growth stage (e.g., Series B → C, or comparable).
• Actively tracking developments in the crypto ecosystem and opinionated on where it's going.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering strategy and technical vision for Turnkey's Platform Engineering organization, spanning infrastructure, reliability and performance, releases and internal tooling.
• Build, manage, and grow a high-performing engineering org, including hiring and developing engineering managers and senior ICs.
• Partner closely with Product Engineering and company leadership to ensure platform investments align with customer and business needs.
• Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, and guide their integration into our platform.
• Contribute to company-wide strategic planning and technical decision-making as a member of the engineering leadership team.
• Define and evolve the org structure, leveling, and career paths for the Platform Engineering team as it scales.
• Drive recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top infrastructure and security-minded engineering talent.
• Set and uphold engineering rituals (on-call, incident review, capacity planning, etc.) that keep the org resilient and accountable.
• Coach and develop managers and senior engineers, building a durable leadership bench.
• Provide strategic technical guidance across foundational systems, ensuring intelligent architectural decisions that support long-term scalability, security, and reliability.
• Oversee the design and implementation of our cloud and network infrastructure, company-wide security architecture and controls, and the operational tooling and practices that keep production systems healthy.
• Ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of infrastructure, addressing the complexities of distributed systems and adversarial threat models.
• Define and drive processes; security reviews, capacity planning, testing, incident response, that ensure quality and consistency across infrastructure development.
