About The Position

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join our dedicated team based in our Burlington, MA office location. In this role, you will manage and coordinate the activities of architectural and engineering functions in a regional office. This is a matrixed role, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of Engineering. This position assumes an indirect supervisory role over all regional Engineering and Design personnel. You will work with and support the Regional VP/Executive Director of Business Development in the following areas: Preparation of regular and special reports and analyses, assessing progress and identifying adverse trends to arrive at logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations for corrective action. Management of regional Engineering & Design personnel utilization. Monitoring Engineering Profit and Loss, and review of office WIP reports to determine corrective actions when required. Participation in the preparation and delivery of sales. Independent and team pursuit and development of sales opportunities. Works with and supports the EVP, Engineering & Design department directors in the following areas: Preparation of regular and special reports and analyses, assessing progress and identifying adverse trends to arrive at logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations for corrective action. Enforcement within the regional office of the application of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures, and standards. Management of various personnel functions, including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations, mentoring, and employee development. Planning and scheduling work of regional office Engineering & Design personnel, ensuring the proper and effective distribution of assignments and manpower, space, and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Serve as contact person at regional office for inter-office labor, work sharing, and outsourcing to consultants. Coordination with project managers to assign regional office personnel to support projects. Identification of personnel with the most appropriate individual qualifications. Preparation of labor and cost estimates for the regional office Engineering & Design project resources. Assurance of the quality, accuracy, and completeness of regional Engineering & Design work. For projects based in the regional office, leads technical coordination for the project team. Ensures that coordination practices are followed. Special projects assigned.

Requirements

  • Engineer or Architect with a minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or planning.
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the execution of engineering and design projects.
  • Analytical thinking, structured problem solving, superior communication, team building, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to build rapport with Engineering & Design personnel assigned to the regional office.
