About The Position

Our client, a 357-bed full-service hospital with Level II Trauma designation, is seeking an experienced and dynamic healthcare professional to fill the role of Director of Emergency Services. The main Emergency Department consists of 41 headwalls and sees approximately 150 patients per day, complemented by two Freestanding Emergency Departments (FSEDs). The successful candidate will lead a team of over 100 FTEs and play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Director of Emergency Services is responsible for assuring service, growth, development, personnel management, and resource allocation in the Emergency Department. This role focuses on consistently delivering high-quality patient care while advancing the patient experience agenda.

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state of practice
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • 3+ years of experience in emergency services required
  • Leadership (manager or director) experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Responsibilities

  • Problem Identification and Solutions: Accurately identify real/potential problems affecting the service and implement solutions with follow-through and communication.
  • Committee Participation: Actively participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees, providing ongoing communication to represent the Emergency Department.
  • Patient Experience: Advance the patient experience agenda in the Emergency Department and actively coach immediate subordinates to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Human Resource Policies: Adhere to all Human Resource policies and effectively communicate departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
  • Employee Engagement: Facilitate evidence-based employee engagement practices and build strong relationships and networks to deliver organizational and department goals.
  • Operational Excellence: Enforce standards of emergency department care, develop processes to measure and ensure consistent compliance, and oversee a continuous performance improvement program.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies for patient services, environmental safety, and personnel safety.
  • Recruitment Support: Support the recruitment process to secure staffing talent and participate in employee and patient rounding, identifying and mentoring potential future leaders.
  • Program Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate an ongoing emergency services program ensuring quality patient care consistent with the hospital mission.
  • Leadership: Provide effective leadership in the department's operational excellence, ensuring the delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
