About The Position

MaineGeneral Health is seeking an experienced and collaborative Director of Emergency Services to provide strategic and operational leadership for Emergency Nursing Services across our two campuses. In this highly visible leadership role, you'll oversee emergency nursing operations and our Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Program while partnering closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered emergency care. You'll also play an important role in emergency preparedness and ensuring our teams are ready to respond to the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Requirements

  • Active Maine RN license or eligibility to obtain Maine licensure promptly
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Progressive nursing leadership experience required.
  • Emergency Department or Emergency Services experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams in a complex, fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong understanding of nursing operations, staffing, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and patient care standards.
  • Experience with budgeting, workforce planning, and operational performance management.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with physicians, clinical leaders, staff, and organizational partners.
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex operational challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orientation, evaluation, disciplinary action, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.
  • Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
