About The Position

Palm Shores and Suncoast Behavioral Health Centers are hiring a Director of Education to lead their hospital homebound education department. The joint education department for Palm Shores Behavioral Health Center and Suncoast Behavioral Health Center is an integral part of the total treatment plan for patients admitted to the residential programs. Students are provided with on-site academic instruction during their stay. Our school is accredited by Cognia. The Director of Education directs the student educational program for the facility, organizes and plans individually tailored educational programs for all students, coordinates individual programs involving the student’s home school district, supervises the implementation of the educational treatment plan, and actively participates in the interdisciplinary treatment team meetings. The Director is also responsible for the overall leadership and contract management of the school. The Director also participates in facility rounding.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Education from an accredited college approved by the Florida Department of Education.
  • Previous Leadership and Supervisory Experience
  • Experience with IEP or 504 plans.
  • Knowledge of implementing teaching methods for secondary school subjects, balancing educational programs within a school setting and remedial teaching.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 50% of the time between both facilities.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills in order to communication in a clear a concise manner with patients, families, all members of the team.
  • Must have leadership abilities to support the staff working with the patients.
  • Must be flexible regarding program needs.
  • Stable emotional makeup required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Work is sedentary requiring sitting most of the day.
  • Sitting up to six (6) hours a day while processing paperwork, and other described duties.
  • Ability to move about the facility as needed.
  • Ability to drive personal vehicle between facilities and attend district meetings/trainings as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Education preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a special needs facility preferred.
