The Director oversees the implementation of high quality education practices consistent with state and federal regulatory guidelines and national accreditation standards. Responsible and effective management will be critical to achieve specific objectives and goals outlined in the Canopy operational and strategic plan. This position will collaborate with state and local personnel including the Mississippi Department of Education, local educational institutions and other regulatory agencies, as appropriate. The Director will function in the role of superintendent for Canopy’s Education Solutions. In addition, the Director collaborates with leaders within Canopy to insure optimal coordination of educational solutions across all districts of the state.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Educational field with Educational Administration or Leadership, required.
  • MS Educator’s license required.
  • Must have a minimum of five years teaching/supervision experience dealing with children and adolescents with learning and emotional problems.
  • Must have five or more years’ experience in Educational Administration.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Joint Commission preferred and Mississippi Department of Education Nonpublic School Standards required.
  • Must possess strong organizational and consultation skills.
  • Moderate Travel Required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Special Education preferred, and administration required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and consults around compliance, evidence-based, and best practice with the CARES School principals in accordance with organization, local, state and federal guidelines, practices and objectives.
  • Serves as a consultant (functional role of Superintendent) for the CARES School staff, ensuring compliance with standards for operation of a non-public school.
  • Monitors for implementing bylaws, plans and policy and procedures of the School Board of Directors, as directed.
  • Reviews, annually, policies and procedures assuring the effective operation of the school and education programs.
  • Ensures that high quality, mission-based programs are being delivered.
  • Promotes and markets programs throughout Mississippi. Monitors and evaluates their effectiveness.
  • Stas current with state, regional, and national education and special educational trends in relation to education programs.
  • Oversees staff development activities in coordination within the Training and Organizational Development Department to insure staff competencies.
  • Plans, develops and designs Satellite Schools throughout Mississippi in accordance with organization, local, state and federal guidelines, practices and objectives.
  • Researches locations for Satellite Schools throughout Mississippi, identifying and negotiating properties in consultation with legal counsel, developing programming, and advising the State Directors on selection of principals and staff necessary to operate an accredited school according to MS Department of Education guidelines for a non-public school.
  • Implements bylaws, plans and policy and procedures of the School Board of Directors as directed.
  • Ensures that high quality, mission and evidence-based programs are being delivered to a variety of audiences.
  • Promotes and markets programs, monitors and evaluates their effectiveness.
  • Oversees the planning, production, presentation, and maintenance of exhibits and products that are relevant to Canopy Educational Solutions.
  • Remains current with state, regional, and national education and special education trends.
  • Develops, organizes, and implements models of technical assistance for community schools throughout the state.
  • Builds strong working, supportive relationships with school superintendents across the state.
  • Delivers written and oral presentations on outcomes to various stakeholders (i.e. Board of Education, principals, teachers, parents, donors and community groups).
  • Collaborates with accounting to prepare budgets and proformas.
  • Prepares grant applications, and works collaboratively with development to solicits funds to provide financial support for programs as needed.
  • Makes weekly contacts with school districts across the state to market Canopy educational/behavioral training solutions.
  • Provides bi-weekly supervision to CARES School principals.
  • Attends bi-weekly supervision with the Chief Solutions Officer.
  • Prepares plans, procedures and reports as required by the Chief Solutions Officer.
  • Prepares Board reports and attends School Boards meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
