About The Position

The Director of Development serves as the operational leader of CHSofNJ's fundraising program and is responsible for converting relationships into revenue that advances the organization's mission and long-term sustainability. Working closely with the Vice President of Advancement, the Director leads fundraising strategy and execution, donor engagement and stewardship, sponsorship development, fundraising events, volunteer engagement, and advancement operations. This position is responsible for growing philanthropic revenue, strengthening donor relationships, expanding community support, and building a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. While the Vice President of Advancement focuses on transformational philanthropy, major gifts, strategic partnerships, and long-term funding strategies, the Director of Development leads the execution of CHSofNJ's development program and day-to-day fundraising operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of fundraising, development, nonprofit leadership, or donor engagement experience.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor stewardship, sponsorship development, and relationship management.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, and fundraising reporting tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, education, human services, or other mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience leading annual giving programs, fundraising events, and sponsorship initiatives.
  • Experience with Virtuous, DonorPerfect, Raiser's Edge, or similar fundraising platforms.
  • Experience supporting volunteer engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising strategies and revenue goals.
  • Lead annual giving, donor acquisition, donor stewardship, and donor retention efforts.
  • Build and manage a healthy donor pipeline.
  • Identify opportunities to increase unrestricted philanthropic support.
  • Utilize fundraising data and performance metrics to improve results.
  • Develop corporate sponsorship and partnership opportunities.
  • Lead fundraising strategy for organizational events and campaigns.
  • Ensure events support donor cultivation, stewardship, and revenue generation.
  • Provide strategic oversight of volunteer engagement initiatives.
  • Supervise the Manager of Communications and Advancement Operations Coordinator.
  • Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Foster collaboration across fundraising, communications, stewardship, volunteer engagement, and advancement operations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, philanthropy, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee fundraising reporting, donor pipeline management, stewardship metrics, and campaign performance.
  • Ensure advancement systems, donor data, and operational processes support effective fundraising and accurate reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with donor intent, gift restrictions, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with program, finance, executive, and Advancement staff to support integrated fundraising strategies.
  • Partner with the Manager of Communications to support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, annual reports, and public engagement efforts.
  • Serve as a champion for philanthropy throughout the organization.
