About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking Directors of Development for University Advancement. These high-level professionals will manage a defined portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, guiding their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, while also establishing new relationships to grow major gift support. The Directors will foster strong relationships between donors, friends, alumni, businesses, and the community with academic leadership, faculty, and staff. A primary focus will be on developing and executing comprehensive fundraising plans to support college/school/area funding priorities, with an emphasis on securing major gifts of $10,000 and above for C Level and $25,000 and above for D Level. The D Level Director will also mentor other development staff and share best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience (C Level).
  • Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of related professional work experience OR Master’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience (D Level).
  • Successful professional experience, preferably in higher education fundraising, non-profit or in a related field which requires strong relationship-building and outcome-driven components or related experience (C Level).
  • Substantial fundraising experience which includes demonstrable experience with individuals in either a higher education, athletic development operation, sales team, or other profession that required the candidate to uncover prospects, make outreach, and meet and cultivate and solicit prospects (D Level).
  • Experience with fundraising databases, contact reports, and proposal preparation (D Level).
  • Experience with a metric-driven, results-oriented environment (D Level).
  • Engagement with donors to solicit high level gifts (D Level).

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage a defined portfolio of major gift prospects and donors by guiding their cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Grow the base of major gift support through establishment of new relationships.
  • Build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between donors, friends, alumni, businesses and the community with academic leadership, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan to support the college/school/area funding priorities.
  • Primary focus on gift solicitation at the major gift level of $10,000 and above (C Level) or $25,000 and above (D Level).
  • Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising program for an assigned college or school to achieve annual fundraising goals (D Level).
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high-net-worth prospects and donors while maintaining and growing a strategic portfolio of major gift donors (D Level).
  • Develop and implement multi-disciplinary fundraising strategies in partnership with academic leadership and University Advancement to increase philanthropic support for the University (D Level).
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to other Directors of Development and Associate Directors of Development, sharing best practices and contributing to the continued growth and success of the University's development program (D Level).
