About The Position

The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) is seeking an experienced and strategic Director to lead the Design & Construction Division. This is a key leadership position within the Department. This role is responsible for overall management and execution of design and construction programs and services for state capital improvement projects and major maintenance projects. The role must provide oversight of the Division’s budget and program performance to ensure projects remain on budget and within scope, and provide vision and strategic direction to the team. The position will work closely with the BGS Commissioner’s Office and other stakeholders to plan for future capital needs and legislative strategy. The Director must possess strong communication and personnel management skills to lead Division personnel to successful outcomes. We are looking for a leader with a degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related building trades field, along with substantial experience in management of concurrent construction projects. The ideal candidate has a history of leading and mentoring professional construction or project management staff, ability to maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, and demonstrated experience in developing and managing operational and project budgets. Experience in construction administration and contracting is essential. This position is best suited for a details-oriented and collaborative individual who is committed to program management, brings hands-on construction experience in addition to any government background, and is interested in high-level strategic leadership within the Department. Starting salary may be negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, program management, or construction management and ten (10) or more years of professional experience encompassing planning, design, and contract management including five (5) or more years of management experience including technical and staff construction supervision.
Associate's degree in architecture, engineering, program management, or construction management and twelve (12) or more years of professional experience encompassing planning, design, and contract management including five (5) or more years of management experience including technical and staff construction supervision.
Substantial experience in management of concurrent construction projects.
Demonstrated experience in developing and managing operational and project budgets.
Hands-on construction experience.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in architecture, engineering, program management, or construction.
Licensure as a professional engineer or architect.
Government background.
