About The Position

The Director of Corporate Accounting is responsible for overseeing the company’s corporate accounting, tax coordination, consolidated financial reporting, treasury coordination, internal controls, corporate audit activities, and enterprise-level financial compliance functions. This role partners closely with the Director of Property Accounting to ensure consistency, accuracy, and operational efficiency across the organization’s accounting and financial reporting processes. This role will also directly manage the Corporate Accountant. The Director of Corporate Accounting will focus primarily on corporate financial management, accounting policies, treasury activities, audit/review/compilation coordination, insurance administration, retirement plan compliance, and organizational accounting processes, while supporting operational and property accounting initiatives as needed. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, supervisory skills, and experience managing complex multi-entity accounting environments within commercial real estate, development, property management, construction or related industries.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA certification strongly preferred.
Minimum 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate, development, property management, or related industries.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, multi-entity accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and real estate accounting practices.
Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills.
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical abilities.
High degree of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Experience with MRI, Yardi, Quickbooks or similar accounting/ERP systems preferred.
Experience coordinating audits, insurance programs, and retirement plan compliance activities preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead and oversee corporate accounting and consolidated financial reporting activities.
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for corporate entities.
Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules.
Coordinate annual tax return preparation for many entities and filing with outside agencies.
Ensure financial reporting is prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Oversee intercompany accounting, eliminations, and consolidated reporting across all entities.
Maintain integrity and consistency of accounting records and reporting processes.
Management and development of direct reports.
Assist in overseeing treasury operations, liquidity management, and cash flow planning.
Coordinate banking activity and maintain banking relationships alongside executive leadership.
Review and approve treasury transactions, funding requests, and wire activity.
Coordinate annual financial audits, reviews or compilations and serve as primary liaison with external auditors.
Prepare audit schedules and respond to audit requests.
Coordinate with external tax advisors regarding federal and state tax filings, partnership reporting, and entity compliance matters.
Oversee administration and coordination of corporate insurance policies, including renewals, claims coordination, policy tracking, and broker relationships.
Assist with organizational risk management initiatives and insurance compliance requirements.
Oversee administration and compliance activities related to the company’s 401(k) plan, including coordination with third-party administrators, annual testing, reporting requirements, and audit support as applicable.
Support compliance with applicable retirement plan regulations and internal governance procedures.
Partner collaboratively with the Director of Property Accounting to support overall accounting department operations and organizational objectives.
Provide technical accounting expertise and support across the accounting and finance functions.
Collaborate on process improvements, reporting consistency, workload balancing, and accounting best practices.
Assist with property accounting and third-party accounting initiatives as needed.
Support implementation and maintenance of scalable accounting procedures and internal controls across the organization.
Work closely with executive leadership and operational teams to ensure alignment between accounting processes and business objectives.
Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and process automation.
Assist in implementation, enhancement, and optimization of accounting systems and workflows.
Support development of standardized reporting and accounting procedures across the organization.
Lead corporate annual budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
Assist with financial analysis, variance reporting, and executive reporting.
