About The Position

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is seeking a Director of Contract and Customized Training. This role, reporting to the Executive Director of Workforce Development and Corporate Partnerships, is responsible for leading the design, sale, delivery, and financial performance of customized training programs for employers in the college's service region. The Director will act as the primary relationship manager for clients, translating their talent needs into effective training solutions and managing engagements from assessment to renewal. This position involves direct responsibility for a revenue portfolio and requires close collaboration with other division leaders to ensure seamless service delivery.

Requirements

  • Consultative selling and account management skills, with demonstrated ability to move an employer relationship from first contact to signed agreement.
  • Working knowledge of contract development, pricing, budgeting, and profit and loss analysis in a revenue generating program.
  • Knowledge of workforce and economic development systems, employer training funding sources, and industry credentialing.
  • Ability to design and coordinate training solutions for adult learners across multiple industries and delivery formats.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including proposal writing and presentation to executive audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with competing deadlines and to work independently in a service-oriented manner.
  • Proficiency with customer relationship management systems, registration and student information systems, and standard office productivity software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across credit and noncredit units and with external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Executive Director to build and manage a pipeline of employer prospects.
  • Conduct consultative needs assessments with employers to identify skill gaps and develop training solutions.
  • Maintain active working relationships with regional economic development and workforce partners.
  • Represent contract and corporate training at employer events and outreach activities.
  • Track all prospect, client, and engagement activity in CRM and registration systems.
  • Negotiate and draft training agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Manage contract execution, including scheduling, instructor assignment, and coordination of logistics.
  • Monitor contract compliance, resolve service issues, and document changes.
  • Conduct post-engagement debriefs and pursue renewals and expanded scopes of work.
  • Develop customized curriculum in partnership with subject matter experts, faculty, and credentialing bodies.
  • Recruit, onboard, schedule, and evaluate contract instructors and adjunct trainers.
  • Ensure training is delivered in responsive formats (on-site, online, hybrid, etc.).
  • Evaluate program quality and implement improvements based on data.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Workforce Programs and credit academic deans for program alignment.
  • Meet annual revenue targets for the contract and corporate training portfolio.
  • Develop pricing for engagements using a cost model.
  • Monitor program profit and loss, forecast revenue and expenses, and adjust strategies.
  • Prepare billing documentation, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Maintain records for audits and reconcile data across systems.
  • Apply Virginia workforce funding tools (e.g., VJIP, FastForward, Workforce Credentials Grant) and advise employers on eligibility.
  • Ensure programs meet reporting and eligibility requirements for WIOA, ETP, and VCCS noncredit reporting.
  • Provide program data and outcome reporting for contracts and grants.
  • Supervise assigned contract instructors, including hiring, work assignment, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Workforce Programs in division planning and problem-solving.
  • Contribute to division goal setting, annual planning, and budget development.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
