About The Position

The Institute for the Creative Arts (ICA) is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as the Director of the Contemporary Music Program within its School of Music. ICA is the first Performing & Visual Arts High School in Arkansas, operating as a state-funded charter school with a mission to empower students through an intensive arts and academic curriculum, preparing them for higher education, creative careers, and leadership in the arts industries. This role will lead a contemporary music program focusing on industry-ready styles like jazz, pop, and rock, building upon a strong foundation of basic music elements. The Institute opened in Fall 2024 in a new, state-of-the-art 40,000 sq. ft. facility, including performance spaces and a recording studio, situated on a 10-acre campus. Students in grades 9-12 participate daily in a specific arts program. The ideal candidate will have significant experience recruiting and teaching high school students, with a background in leading band, jazz band, and other contemporary instrumental music ensembles. Excellent communication skills are essential for community networking and student identification. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with other ICA instructors on curriculum development, performances, and events. The Director will report directly to the President and secondarily to the Dean.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in music, masters a plus with emphasis in directing instrumental ensembles.
  • Three years of teaching experience is preferred, particularly at the high school level.
  • Team builder, highly organized and possessing excellent customer service/communication skills.
  • Dynamic and energetic leadership qualities.
  • Ability to collaborate and involve community partners.
  • Ability to recruit and mentor students.
  • Must meet Arkansas Qualified Teacher Requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead/Teach instrumental ensembles.
  • Prepare students for college and the industry.
  • Develop summer programs and camps.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other music instructors.
  • Assist in recruiting instructors for the program.
  • Assist in developing the curriculum for the program.
  • Be responsible for parent engagement and recruitment and retention of students.
