About The Position

Brooklyn Community Services (BCS), founded in 1866, empowers children and families to reach their full potential, strengthen families, and foster self-sufficiency in adults. Serving thousands of individuals and families each year through programs across Brooklyn, BCS is hiring a Director of Compliance to develop and maintain the organization’s compliance program, including a comprehensive Medicaid Compliance Program to prevent, detect, and address fraud, waste, and abuse. This hands-on leadership role works directly with program and administrative leaders to build compliance systems where they are missing and strengthen existing processes. The Director develops policies, procedures, forms, tracking tools, and training; reviews records; conducts site visits, audits, and investigations; and supports staff in identifying root causes and implementing corrective action. The position clarifies departmental accountability, verifies adherence, and reports significant concerns to the CEO and, at least quarterly, to the Board Audit Committee and Finance Committee. Program and administrative leaders retain responsibility for implementing requirements in their functions, while Compliance establishes the central framework, monitors adherence, and tracks corrective action. The role supports BCS’s mission and protects its people, resources, reputation, tax-exempt status, and public trust. It is based in Brooklyn, New York, is full-time, and reports to the CEO. Regular travel among BCS program and administrative sites is required.

  • At least seven years of progressive, hands-on experience in compliance, auditing, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, risk management, public contracting, or related work; seven to ten years is preferred.
  • Direct experience with New York Medicaid compliance and human-services requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience building compliance systems where processes were incomplete, inconsistent, or absent.
  • Hands-on experience writing policies and procedures, creating compliance tools, reviewing records, conducting file audits or site visits, delivering staff training, and verifying corrective actions.
  • Experience assessing service documentation, billing support, program eligibility, or claims-related records and collaborating with Finance and program teams to resolve issues.
  • Experience handling compliance concerns, documenting investigations, and maintaining confidential records.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, tracking tools, document management, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent written communication, facilitation, project-management, analytical, and relationship-management skills.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, independence, and ability to work productively with staff at all levels.
