About The Position

Fliff is seeking an experienced Director of Compliance to join their Legal Team. This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the company's compliance function across all Fliff verticals, including gaming, social sportsbook, DFS, and upcoming prediction market initiatives (CFTC frameworks) and consumer protection standards (FTC compliance). The Director of Compliance will report to the Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs and will serve as Fliff’s senior compliance lead, with direct responsibility for regulator engagement and compliance strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory roles within gaming, fintech, prediction markets, or derivatives and commodities trading.
  • Active Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one United States jurisdiction preferred.
  • Direct experience or a strong working knowledge of the Commodity Exchange Act, CFTC and NFA rules, and event contract or prediction market regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience navigating FTC guidelines, advertising compliance, and consumer protection laws in digital consumer verticals.
  • Experience building, standing up, or maintaining a compliance program in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment with limited precedent.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with risk management functions, specifically a Head of Risk, to segment and conquer complex compliance and operational hazards.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to translate highly complex federal regulations into practical, actionable guidance for product and business teams.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and thrive in an evolving regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and improve the company’s compliance program across gaming, social sportsbook, DFS, and prediction market verticals.
  • Own the regulatory, market, and credit risk profiles required for prediction market licensing.
  • Draft, maintain, and improve compliance policies, procedures, internal controls, rulebooks, and terms and conditions.
  • Own our CFTC compliance strategy, including structuring event contracts and prediction market products, contract terms, and market integrity rules.
  • Lead regulatory registrations, applications, and filings under FCM frameworks and prepare the organization for ongoing obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA), CFTC, and NFA rules governing event-based products.
  • Ensure all consumer-facing initiatives, marketing campaigns, disclosures, and user acquisition strategies comply with FTC guidelines and consumer protection standards.
  • Review marketing, advertising, and educational materials for compliance with both FTC standards and applicable CFTC/NFA advertising rules.
  • Oversee privacy compliance, including data protection, security practices, and user consent frameworks alongside product teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for state gaming authorities, federal regulators (CFTC and FTC), and self-regulatory organizations.
  • Manage regulatory filings, licensing renewals, independent audits, and regulatory examinations.
  • Monitor, interpret, and proactively translate shifting federal and state laws impacting all Fliff verticals.
  • Oversee and improve Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Financing of Terrorism (CFT), fraud prevention, and Know Your Customer (KYC) programs.
  • Partner with internal security and operations teams to investigate suspicious activity, detect market manipulation, and manage high-level escalations.
  • Support contracting and commercial work without slowing it down.
  • Partner closely with Legal, Risk, Product, Engineering, Operations, Payments, Marketing, and Finance teams to build compliant operations under federal and state frameworks.
