We’re looking for a Director, Communications to lead how Duolingo shows up at our most important moments—when we launch products, share results, and explain how we’re growing. This role is responsible for turning what we’re building and how it’s performing into clear, compelling stories. You’ll own the narratives around our biggest product bets and ensure they show up consistently across launches, earnings, and executive communications. You’ll work closely with Product, Data, and Finance to translate progress into proof—connecting what we ship to real outcomes for learners and the business. This is a role for someone who thinks like an operator, not just a storyteller: you understand how product decisions drive growth, and how to turn that into narratives that build trust, drive adoption, and stand up to scrutiny.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in communications, with strong experience in product comms and/or corporate/financial comms at a high-growth tech company.
  • A track record of turning product work into clear, differentiated stories that get picked up—and understood.
  • Experience supporting earnings or working closely with Finance/IR to shape external narratives.
  • Strong instincts for what matters: you can quickly identify the signal in a roadmap, dataset, or result—and build a story around it.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; you can make complex ideas simple without losing credibility.
  • Experience preparing executives for high-stakes moments (earnings, launches, major interviews).
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with Product, Data, Marketing, and Finance.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-moving environment and build structure where it doesn’t exist.
  • Experience managing agencies and holding a high-quality bar.

  • Direct experience leading or owning earnings communications.
  • Experience connecting product metrics to business narratives in a credible way.

  • Writing samples that show range: product launches, earnings narratives, executive messaging.

Responsibilities

  • Own how we communicate product progress and company performance—connecting what we ship to how we grow (DAUs, engagement, revenue).
  • Lead comms for earnings and major company moments: shape the narrative, partner with IR and Finance, and ensure consistency across press, exec messaging, and owned channels.
  • Drive product communications end-to-end: from shaping the story to landing the launch to sustaining momentum after.
  • Turn complex product areas (AI, efficacy, monetization) into simple, credible narratives with clear proof points.
  • Partner deeply with Product and Data to identify what’s actually interesting, differentiated, and worth talking about—and what’s not.
  • Build repeatable systems for how we show up across launches and earnings (messaging frameworks, proof points, story arcs).
  • Prepare executives to speak clearly and consistently about product and business performance in high-stakes moments.
  • Anticipate and manage issues tied to product changes, AI, efficacy, and monetization—balancing transparency with clarity.
  • Define what “good” looks like and measure it—focusing on message pull-through, narrative clarity, and impact on trust and growth.
  • Manage agencies and partners to execute at a high bar.
