Director of Communications

Slingshot Group•Orlando, FL

About The Position

The Director of Communications leads the church’s voice and communications across worship, care, and community life. The role turns announcements and ministry updates into a clear, trustworthy, consistent story that helps people take next steps in faith, service, and belonging. The director will build a unified message calendar, improve response to weekly communications, deliver timely and accurate worship, website, and social content, and establish shared communications standards with staff and ministry leaders. The role also involves telling stories of ministry impact, handling sensitive communications with pastoral care, and developing volunteers and vendors who can sustain the church’s communications channels. The director reports to senior pastoral leadership and partners daily with ministry staff and volunteer communicators. Resources include the website, email, social channels, design, and livestream or AV partners. The budget is modest, and the role sets priorities rather than inheriting a large communications department.

Requirements

  • Experience leading multi-channel communications for a church, nonprofit, or community organization, with results that can be described.
  • Ability to write, edit, and art-direct announcements, web, email, and social content without heavy revision.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteers and deadlines across several ministries at once.
  • Ability to handle confidential and pastoral information with discretion and theological alignment.
  • Proficiency with common web, email, and design tools sufficient to publish content.

Responsibilities

  • Build a single message calendar so worship, events, and care needs reach the right people on time and reduce last-minute requests.
  • Improve response to weekly communications, measured by opens, clicks, guest follow-up, and event participation.
  • Deliver accurate, timely, and consistent worship, website, and social content.
  • Align staff and ministry leaders on shared standards for announcements, graphics, and public statements.
  • Tell concrete stories of ministry impact that strengthen serving, giving, and guest connection.
  • Lead communications about crises, pastoral matters, and public issues with speed, accuracy, and pastoral care.
  • Develop volunteers and vendors so core communications channels continue during the director’s absence.
  • Set communications priorities and build systems for the church’s communications work.
