About The Position

The Director of Clinical Education's primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty. This includes communication between Maryville University and affiliated clinical education sites, clinical education program planning, implementation, and assessment, clinical site and clinical faculty development, preparation of students for clinical experiences and advising students on clinical selection, and evaluation of student performance in cooperation with the program director, other faculty, and the clinical instructor. The Director of Clinical Education oversees all activities related to clinical experiences, ensuring students are ready for clinical experiences and have the opportunity for success. This involves reviewing clinical evaluations, overseeing site visits, presenting students for faculty review, and monitoring student progress. The role also manages the business of clinical education, including presenting CPI results, updating the clinical handbook, utilizing the EXXAT system, and meeting deadlines for legal teams, EXXAT, and accreditation reports. Additionally, the DCE is responsible for ensuring clinical sites are updated, establishing agreements, verifying instructor qualifications and training, managing student placements, maintaining communication with sites, and ensuring all documentation is up-to-date.

Requirements

  • Must be PT-licensed (or eligible for license) in the State of Missouri.
  • Experience in clinical education as a clinical instructor, site coordinator, or previous DCE experience.
  • Have completed 3.0 CPI Training.
  • Doctor of PT Degree and board certification or Advanced Academic degree.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty.
  • Serve as the communication liaison between Maryville University and affiliated clinical education sites.
  • Manage clinical education program planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Facilitate clinical site and clinical faculty development.
  • Prepare students for clinical experiences and advise them on clinical selection.
  • Evaluate student performance in cooperation with the program director, other faculty, and the clinical instructor.
  • Oversee and review all clinical site evaluations by students and clinical instructors.
  • Oversee and review all clinical site visits, scheduling of faculty, and review of documentation post-visit.
  • Present all students and their clinical placements to the faculty for review.
  • Monitor and track all students' progress through clinical experiences.
  • Present to faculty CPI Results (Overall and Individual Student) and any comments/issues by clinical instructors.
  • Update the clinical handbook annually and ensure students and clinical sites are aware of any updates.
  • Utilize the EXXAT system for clinical updates and site/student matching process.
  • Meet deadlines for Maryville University Legal Team (contracts and issues related to NC-SARA).
  • Meet deadlines for EXXAT for clinic matching.
  • Meet deadlines for all reports needed for CAPTE, HLC, and any other university requirements.
  • Ensure all clinical sites are updated and current.
  • Establish agreements with clinical experience sites and ensure all clinical site agreements are current.
  • Ensure all clinical instructors meet requirements and are qualified to be a clinical instructor.
  • Ensure all clinical instructors are trained in the use of the CPI.
  • Ensure all students are submitted into the system going into the 5th year and matched to sites according to the established timeline.
  • Ensure all communication with clinical sites is updated and current.
  • Ensure all documentation for each clinical experience is up to date and provided with clinical sites with letters regarding student placement.
