About The Position

The Ohio Environmental Council seeks a full-time Director of Clean Energy Policy to support the operation of the Energy Program. The Director of Clean Energy Policy will serve as an expert on energy affordability policy, data center regulation, and utility scale energy representing the OEC in its efforts to lower energy costs and expand clean energy deployment across the state. The Director of Clean Energy Policy will serve as the energy programs point person on external facing issues campaigns, working closely with OEC’s government affairs and campaigns teams. The Director of Clean Energy Policy will engage directly with stakeholders, community members, and elected officials to advance the Energy Team’s goals of developing a clean, reliable, and affordable electric system in Ohio. As a member of the OEC’s Energy Team, this position, along with Climate and Justice Manager, will report to the Managing Director of Energy Policy, and will work closely with the Senior Clean Energy Attorney.

Requirements

  • At least four years of demonstrable experience in policy analysis, advocacy or government affairs, preferably in matters relating to energy, energy policy, and/or data centers.
  • A demonstrated commitment to environmental justice.
  • A track record of success designing and delivering results on energy policy, environmental justice policy or environmental-adjacent programs and plans.
  • The ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills with the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • The ability to plan, track, and manage a budget successfully.
  • Effective project management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple projects independently.
  • The ability to craft a vision for the future and develop a plan that enables you to get there.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and leverage data to develop effective strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and driving the strategies that will advance the deliverables outlined in the energy portion of the OEC’s strategic plan.
  • Working with the Managing Director of Energy Policy to create and implement scientifically sound energy policy platform that mitigates the causes of climate change.
  • Serving as the organization’s lead legislative analyst around energy affordability, utility accountability, and data centers.
  • Playing the role of overseeing the energy team’s external-facing campaigns, oftentimes in close partnership with members of Ohio’s Climate and Clean Energy Coalition.
  • Partnering with OEC’s regional directors to develop local solutions and policies to advance an affordable, reliable clean energy system.
  • Utilizing the latest science and data, develop issue expertise on data centers across the water and energy nexus and advocate for sound policy and mitigation strategies.
  • Expanding the OEC’s influence through maintaining and growing partnerships and attending events that generate new opportunities for visibility and growth.
  • Helping to identify and secure funding to help advance the energy program’s work and deepen its impact.
