About The Position

Extra Space Storage is a leading institutional self-storage company committed to providing exceptional storage solutions. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Claims to join our dynamic team and play a key role in managing property, liability and specialty claims processes. As the Director of Claims, you will oversee the comprehensive claims management process, ensuring the swift and efficient resolution of both property and casualty claims. This role demands a proactive approach to building and refining claims processes, fostering strong negotiation skills, driving organizational change, and developing, managing, and monitoring team KPI’s. This position will require collaboration across various internal departments including finance, operations, facilities, and legal and lead engagement with outside vendors including TPA’s, adjusters, engineers, brokers, and remediation companies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in claims management, with expertise in either property or casualty claims.
• Familiarity with both claim types is preferred.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve disputes effectively.
• Proven experience in building and improving claims management processes.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Ability to drive organizational change and implement innovative strategies.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret claims data.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

• MBA, JD, or other relevant graduate degree strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the property and casualty (GL, auto, work comp) claims processes, ensuring timely and effective resolution of claims.
• Lead and mentor a team of claims professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
• Build and implement best-in-class claims management processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Utilize strong negotiation skills to manage and resolve claims disputes effectively.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, insurance carriers, adjusters, consultants, and vendors.
• Drive organizational change by implementing innovative strategies and processes to improve claims handling and risk management.
• Analyze claims data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and provide strategic insights to senior management.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies related to claims management.
