About The Position

Central Presbyterian Church is seeking an experienced Director of Children's Ministry who has a passion for serving Central Church and its ministries, particularly to young children and their families. The Director of Children's Ministry oversees the nurture and care of the children of Central so that they grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus Christ and live in grateful response to his grace. Central believes that the primary responsibility for the Christian nurture of children lies with their parents, but this responsibility extends to the entire Christian community. Central’s Children’s Ministry provides resources, community, and programs to support parents in this important responsibility. This role provides leadership and oversight to all programming and content for children in the nursery through 5th grade. The preferred candidate has experience working with children and possesses the relevant knowledge, relational ability, and organizational skill to manage a multi-dimensional ministry.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Children’s Ministry experience in the context of the local church
  • Enthusiastic desire to share the love of Jesus with children and their families
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and steward church resources responsibly.
  • Professional experience with childhood faith development, and religious education
  • Ability to recruit and develop a team of student leaders and volunteers.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the basic convictions of reformed theology as expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.
  • A personal and growing commitment to Jesus as Lord and Savior in reliance upon his grace.
  • A commitment to the authority of Scripture and to a lifestyle that befits a follower of Jesus.
  • A willingness to work within the framework of the church’s leadership structure and procedures.
  • A willing heart, teachable spirit, positive attitude, flexible nature, and a sense of humor.
  • A team ministry commitment which places the good of the whole over individual goals.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of full-time and/or part-time Children's Ministry staff
  • Oversees and coordinates all programs and events for children in the nursery through 5th grade including but not limited to: Worship on Sunday for all children ages 6mo-5th grade, Central’s Children and Youth Choirs and Christmas Pageant, Mustard Seed Club (weekly midweek program for Pre-K through 3rd Grade), Fantastic Fridays (monthly Friday night program for 4th-5th Grade), Moms Group (weekly relational support group for moms and their toddlers), Dads & Donuts (monthly relational group for dads and their toddlers), Sports classes (weekly classes offered in Central’s gym in fall and winter), Sacraments class (preparing upper elementary age children for Communion), Vacation Bible School (annual week-long program in July), Parent Socials and Series, Additional programming as needed
  • Manages the Children's Ministry budget and participates in annual budgeting
  • Oversees health and safety protocols for the Children's Ministry
  • Implements age-appropriate, gospel-centered curriculum for all classes and programs under the direction and guidance of the Senior Pastor
  • Manages the Children's Ministry events calendar
  • Ensures classrooms are properly organized, prepared and stocked with supplies
  • Tracks attendance for all Children's ministry programming
  • Proactively welcomes new families with a priority on evangelism and pursuing those who are new to church
  • Equip parents to provide for the spiritual nurture of their children
  • Builds trusting relationships with children and their families in order to embrace them in the life and community of the church
  • Foster community between the families involved in the Children's ministry
  • Promotes Children's Ministry programs and events through regular email campaigns, media content development, and personal communication
  • Identifies, recruits, trains and coordinates Children's Ministry volunteers and paid staff
  • Serves as the primary liaison with the Director of Central’s Children and Youth choirs
  • Oversees Sunday ministry staff and regularly checks in via email and in-person meetings
  • Organizes the nursery childcare for special events and worship services
  • Plans and runs semi-annual training for Children's Ministry volunteers and staff
  • Coordinates annual volunteer and staff appreciation event in collaboration with staff
