About The Position

Jim Dooley Center for Early Learning – UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health - Geneva General Hospital is seeking an experienced and passionate Child Care Center Director to lead the daily operations of the Jim Dooley Center for Early Learning. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong early childhood leader who thrives in a role that combines program excellence, team leadership, financial management, family engagement, and strategic growth. The ideal candidate is a proven Child Care Director who understands what it takes to operate a high-quality early learning program while inspiring teachers, supporting families, maintaining regulatory compliance, and creating a nurturing environment where children can grow and thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, including coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time teaching experience in a child care center or early childhood program
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising staff
  • Strong experience leading child care programs and developing teams
  • Knowledge of child care licensing, accreditation, and quality standards
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • NYS Teaching Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily child care center operations, ensuring compliance with New York State licensing regulations, NYS Department of Education requirements, and accreditation standards
  • Maintain and strengthen NAEYC accreditation and quality improvement initiatives
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget, including financial planning, purchasing, and resource management
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of child care professionals
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels while balancing program quality and budget goals
  • Build strong relationships with families, employees, and community partners
  • Support enrollment growth through creative marketing strategies and program development
  • Identify opportunities for expansion, innovation, and new revenue opportunities
  • Oversee record keeping, billing, purchasing, and administrative processes
