About The Position

The Director of Catering & Conference Services is responsible for directing and administering catering operations in the hotel, ensuring outstanding guest service and financial profitability. This role involves managing all aspects of catering and offsite events, from client acquisition and contract negotiation to event execution and financial management. The position also requires collaboration with other departments and adherence to regulations.

Requirements

  • At least 2-4 years of relevant experience and/or training. A combination of experience, education, and/or training may be substituted for either requirement.
  • Previous similar position in an up-scale hotel, or similar business entity preferred.
  • Availability to work on weekends and holidays is required.
  • Must be able to attain a valid San Diego County Food Handler certification upon hire.
  • RBS Certification required.
  • Ability to always maintain a friendly, professional, team-oriented, positive demeanor and diplomatic attitude, especially under stress or challenges.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, squat for prolonged periods of time, up to and including, the entire shift and lift up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee all catering and offsite event operations, including guest service, client acquisition, contract negotiation, marketing, planning, event execution, cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and departmental management.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Evans Garage events.
  • Collaborate with the Lodge at Torrey Pines on lead generation and client relations.
  • Facilitate site tours.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Lead meetings and cross-functional coordination.
  • Develop market segments, solicit new customers, negotiate contracts, and maintain relationships with current customers.
  • Monitor and develop team member performance, including supervision, professional development, scheduling, counseling, evaluations, and recognition/reward.
  • Recruit, interview, and train team members.
  • Communicate with and provide direction and supervision to team members to execute catering events.
  • Document maintenance needs and submit work orders.
  • Attend Safety Committee Meetings, as requested by manager.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the leadership team.
