About The Position

The Director of Catering and Events supports team to manage accounts to achieve guest satisfaction and to solicit past and new business to meet or exceed revenue goals as assigned. Develop the Catering & Events team and ensure their revenue goals are met whilst also exceeding own revenue goals and objectives of the hotel. Support Group team from a leadership perspective. Manage foster a team which is constantly learning and thriving. Generates awareness of the hotel’s catering capacity through all client opportunities; oversees leadership role of catering department; manages day to day catering office operation and activities.

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of a hotel structure and how all departments interact.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Delphi, Shiji SEP, CVent
  • Must be able to effectively work with a variety of internal and external customers and colleagues.
  • Must have basic math skills to prepare cost proposals. Must be able to travel throughout designated markets.
  • Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to read newspapers, periodicals, journals, and manuals.
  • Write business letters, summaries, and reports, using prescribed format, and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years college
  • Previous experience as Director of Catering & Events in a luxury/upscale hotel
  • Proven track record in catering sales and event management is a must with minimum of 5 years of sales and 2 years of leadership experience in hospitality environment.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality or related industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with DOSM on annual budgeting process and S&M plan.
  • Conduct weekly meetings and manage forecast.
  • Support team to solicit, evaluate, sell and confirm business to meet overall market segment budgeted sales and profit margins.
  • Conduct site inspections throughout property
  • Ensure the team can draft proposals, contracts, letters, and reports in a timely manner
  • Ensure team contacts customers in house to promote good will and foster additional business, repeat bookings and referrals.
  • Enable team to maximize revenue by selling all facets of the hotel
  • Ensure the team can handle account details so all pertinent aspects of solicitation and closing are complete and documented in Delphi.fdc
  • Train & develop the team to collaborate with various departments to ensure flawless execution and participate in solving problems with other departments related to business booked
  • Develop travel calendar and strategy for the events team and provide direction to group team as needed. Travel locally and nationally to conduct outside sales calls, promote the hotel and review competition reader boards to develop leads.
  • Ensure TLNYC is represented at tradeshows both nationally and internationally as required
  • Research periodicals, internet, trade journals, and other publications to learn about potential business opportunities and apply those strategies to drive revenue.
  • Support the teams efforts to prepare information for, meet with, and entertain clients as deemed appropriate by potential business from that account
  • Ensure you and the team attends & hosts hotel events as required
  • Assist with client billing as required
  • Assist the support staff with maintenance of sales files and mentor support staff as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Sales and Marketing
  • Fulfill Manager on Duty shifts as scheduled
