About The Position

A valued member of the Executive Team, the Director of Care provides strategic leadership by directing the service delivery and programs for Grace Manor, a designated Assisted Living Alberta, Type B Continuing Care home, serving individuals in accordance with government contractual agreements and The Salvation Army standards. This position is responsible for providing onsite directorship and oversight to the Nursing and Recreation department (multi-site Recreation program).

Requirements

  • Licensed as a regulated health care professional such as Registered Nurse, Licenced Practical Nurse, Occupational Therapist, etc.
  • Current registration with Licensee body
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid with CPR, Criminal Police Investigation Check, Non-violent Crisis Intervention training
  • Must have a seven (5) years related experience, including clinical, leadership and budgeting experience in a residential facility setting.
  • Knowledge of the Continuing Care Health Services Standards (CCHSS for Type B).
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values

Nice To Haves

  • Health Care Administration Certification as asset
  • Prior experience working in a facility setting serving individuals with mental health & addiction is an asset.
  • Working experience in a unionized environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of the resident care service delivery in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army, and applicable funding contract expectations.
  • Plan, develop, maintain, and monitor all aspects of the resident care service delivery and administrative systems; implement new programs to meet changing needs in alignment with the overall organizational strategic directions.
  • Plan, develop and revise policies, protocols and day-to-day operating procedures for Grace Manor operation in compliance with the Government health authorities, funders and The Salvation Army standards including accreditation requirements to ensure consistency and practices in resident care services.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate clinical care services in accordance with evidence-based practices.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate Infection Control procedures for areas of responsibility.
  • Provide facility admission oversite.
  • Provide oversight to Nursing training and education to ensure consistent quality and competent skill level of health care staff are maintained and delivered.
  • Providing leadership to Clinical, Education, Recreation, Unit Managers and Executive Assistant.
  • Ensure staff comply with health and safety standards, and prepare, analyze, submit, and act on incident/ occurrence reports.
  • Deal with staff complaints/grievances; may participate in union negotiations.
  • Responsible for the scheduling, direct, and indirect supervision of staff.
  • Provide direction concerning current tasks or consults in assignments and has input into human resource decisions; decides on hiring, termination or disciplinary decisions.
  • Working with the Finance Team to develop, prepare, implement, and monitor program budget and ensure compliance with the approved budget.
  • Authorize program expenditures up to a pre-determined amount.
  • In collaboration with Director of Operations, Facilities Manager, Food Services manager, and Environmental Manager, ensure operations, facilities, and equipment are maintained in good order.
  • Identify capital equipment for areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare qualitative and quantitative operational reports as requested; develop quality assurance standards and measurements.
  • Oversee appropriate and effective case management system and practices.
  • Oversee all incidents and concerns which may involve AHS Report.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance program delivery by seeking community partnerships and or new funding sources.
  • Maintain and promote effective working relationships and communication with government agencies, and community partners.
  • Participate as an active member of the Executive Management Team.
  • Various ad hoc Committees as assigned
  • Proven excellent Stakeholder relations with the Assisted Living Alberta team (including Case Managers, Operations Manager, and all other health care professionals such as Physicians, and Pharmacy
  • Proven exceptional communication with families, trustees, guardians and residents
  • Responsible for budget estimation of $4 million
  • Develop and implement an effective resident care management system
