About The Position

The Director of Business Development and Operations is responsible for driving sales growth and supporting operational leadership within UPG’s CNC division. This role focuses on developing new business opportunities, strengthening customer relationships, supporting quoting and project launch activity, and helping oversee the day-to-day performance of the CNC department to ensure profitability, efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of combined business development, sales, operations, or leadership experience in CNC machining, manufacturing, or a related industrial environment.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and supporting operational performance in a manufacturing setting is required.
  • Strong business development and customer relationship management skills
  • Working knowledge of CNC machining processes, production flow, and manufacturing operations
  • Experience with quoting, pricing, and project coordination
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, customer requirements, and specifications preferred
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for education.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities for the CNC division
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective customers
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries, RFQs, project opportunities, and commercial discussions
  • Work with customers to understand prints, specifications, timelines, quality expectations, and project scope
  • Prepare, review, and support quotes, pricing strategies, and proposals in coordination with internal teams
  • Partner with leadership to establish and execute business development strategies that support division growth goals
  • Monitor customer trends, market conditions, and competitor activity to identify sales opportunities
  • Support management of the CNC division’s daily operations to help ensure efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery
  • Work closely with production, quality, engineering, and scheduling teams to align customer requirements with operational capabilities
  • Help oversee workflow, job status, priorities, staffing needs, and communication across the CNC department
  • Assist with planning related to equipment utilization, capacity, scheduling, and departmental growth
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to improve productivity, communication, quality, and profitability
  • Help ensure jobs move efficiently from quoting through production and final delivery
  • Promote compliance with company policies, safety requirements, quality standards, and documented work procedures
  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures and work instructions.
