About The Position

The Mississippi State Broadcast Operations Department produces events on ESPN and SEC Network platforms, including linear and digital networks. The Director of Broadcast Technology and Engineering is a self-starter who is extremely organized, able to work effectively alone or in a group, and can bring a positive attitude to work each day. Exceptional troubleshooting skills will be required, and innovative solutions to complex problems will be necessary. This individual will collaborate with full and part-time staff to oversee that all broadcast equipment is in good working order, is set up in the proper manner, and is being operated appropriately.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with four (4) years of experience and relevant experience.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to precisely identify problems and solutions on-the-fly.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required by events.
  • Excellent organizational, management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and SEC regulations.
  • Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day technical support, installation, repair, and maintenance of key infrastructure components of Mississippi State Broadcast Operations control rooms.
  • Ensuring all cameras and on-site setups are operating and transmission paths and feeds are functioning properly for each broadcast and in-venue productions.
  • Working as a member of the live production team to identify, analyze, and resolve system problems as they arise.
  • Providing operational assistance and instruction to full and part-time staff, as well as student workers.
  • Working closely with ESPN and SEC Network to maintain technical knowledge for live broadcasts.
  • Preparing and maintaining various technical records and engineering logs pertaining to broadcast equipment performance and discrepancies.
  • Performing modifications according to engineering specifications and determining priorities regarding repair, maintenance, and modifications.
  • Monitoring inventory of replacement parts and other engineering supplies; providing equipment specifications and ordering equipment according to university and department procedures.
  • Participating in training and development to keep abreast of the latest technological advances and working in tandem with the production staff to develop and implement training programs for other technical staff in all aspects of broadcast standards, practices, and basic electronic theory and troubleshooting.
  • Assisting with the acquisition of capital equipment and preparation of maintenance budgets.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
