About The Position

The Director of Aviation is responsible for the overall organization and operation of the Aviation Associate of Applied Science Degree Programs. The director is responsible for maintaining all paper work in accordance with FAA regulations, including Training Course Outlines (TCOs), training folders, and Airmen and Medical Certification. The director also manages recruitment, monitors and evaluates personnel job performance with the cooperation and assistance of the Dean for Career Technical Education.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an aviation or related field.
Knowledge and understanding of college organization, goals andனுடைய objectives, and policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the requirements of accreditation agencies.
Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).
Skill in budget preparation and management.
Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Skill in computer applications.
Ability to demonstrate a record of progressive achievements in the field with tangible results.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
Ability to travel between campuses and all aviation sites.
Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 3 years’ experience as CFI, CFII, or MEI or related work experience
Experience using Redbird flight simulators.
Experience using Canvas and familiarity with WCAG accessibility requirements.
Qualified Veterans may be given preference.

Responsibilities

Assist with design and development of course curriculum and training that meets industry standards.
Recruit, participate and make recommendations to the Dean of CTE of adjunct faculty for aviation classes.
May be required to teach up to two classes a term if qualified adjunct faculty cannot be secured.
Develop and implement short-term and long-range strategic vision, philosophies, goals, objectives, and plans for the aviation programs.
Responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date information in the Veterans Information Bulletin (VIB) and keeping program enrollment within the 85-15 standard as dictated by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Update program information changes in the course catalog as required.
Ensure the aviation safety program is robust and meets applicable regulations.
Manage the vendor relationship with the out side flight instruction vendor(s) who support the program.
Monitor all flight-training and ground school education for the program.
Collaborate with instructors to ensure necessary updates to FAA TCOs and syllabus documents are maintained as required.
Facilitate the Aviation Program Advisory Committee to develop a long-term plan for the program and ensure the institution is getting balanced, industry-specific information to ensure program growth.
Set meeting times (at least three per academic year), agendas, and record minutes of Committee meetings.
Collaborate with the Registrar, Business Office, Financial Aid and the college veterans’ representatives as required to ensure all issues related to student enrollment are completed.
Advise all aviation students and up dates their academic plans every term as necessary.
Report to the Dean to ensure all academic and administrative issues related to the program are completed and monitored for continued compliance with FAA, VA, and KCC standards.
Field and return student calls and emails expressing interest in the program.
Direct the creation, implementation and enforcement of operating rules, regulations, and procedures for safe, secure and efficient operations.
Over see the development and administration of the annual budget and financial structure; monitor expenditures throughout the year and implement adjustments as needed and/or requested.
Develop term course schedules and faculty assignments.
Establish and evaluate department all policies and procedures.
Ensure departmental compliance with NWCCU accreditation guidelines.
Monitor and ensure success with increasing student enrollment, retention, graduation and job placement rates; as well as, resolving student issues.
Evaluate in adherence to criteria of accrediting and certifying agencies and ensures compliance with FAA requirements.
Participate in the development and implementation of college policies, procedures, and guidelines.
If assigned, this position may require administrative work on grant-funded program activities and reporting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
