About The Position

The Director of Audio Visual (AV) for a hotel plays a critical role in managing all audiovisual services and ensuring seamless technology integration for events, conferences, and day-to-day hotel operations. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of AV management experience in a hotel, and conference center.
  • Familiarity with AV platforms like Crestron, Extron, or similar systems.
  • Certification in AV technologies (e.g., CTS - Certified Technology Specialist).
  • Client satisfaction scores related to AV services.
  • Operational efficiency and adherence to budgets.
  • Equipment functionality and uptime.
  • Employee engagement and training success within the AV team.
  • Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift: Physical Stamina: Sit for extended periods of time, see and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids, enter data into computer, operate standard office equipment, use a telephone, hear and understand at normal levels and on the telephone, speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone, stoop, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Climb a 14’ ladder to hang lights.
  • Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets.
  • Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
  • Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports.
  • Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients and event planners to determine AV requirements for meetings, conferences, weddings, and other events.
  • Oversee the setup, operation, and dismantling of AV equipment, ensuring all aspects run smoothly.
  • Manage, train, and schedule AV technicians to maintain high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide leadership and ensure the team follows safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AV systems, including projectors, microphones, sound systems, lighting, and video conferencing equipment.
  • Oversee equipment inventory and procurement of new or replacement technology.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding AV needs.
  • Provide technical advice and innovative solutions to enhance guest experiences.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for AV services.
  • Create proposals and pricing structures for clients, maximizing revenue while ensuring value.
  • Work closely with other hotel departments (banquets, sales, IT) to align AV services with broader event and guest experience goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
