About The Position

Shenandoah University, a Division III institution in the beautiful northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is seeking applicants for the position of Athletic Director. Shenandoah is a full member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference; SU offers 23 varsity sports and has 75 full-time and part-time coaches and staff members. This is a full-time, 12-month position with competitive salary and benefits. The Athletic Director oversees a department characterized by strong academics, robust relationships with faculty and staff around campus, and a commitment to community service.

Requirements

Commitment to academic excellence, sportsmanship, and the philosophy of Division III.
Experience overseeing a departmental budget.
Knowledge of NCAA and ODAC regulations.
Experience mentoring coaches.
Experience in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and leading staff.
Experience in fundraising.
Experience collaborating with admissions for student recruitment.
Experience strengthening alumni support and related clubs/organizations.
Experience overseeing facility expansion projects.
Ability to teach one course a year.
Experience improving recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
Experience in fundraising for athletics.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Serve as the strongest advocate and voice for all athletic programs at SU, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence, sportsmanship, and the philosophy of Division III.
Oversee the departmental budget and ensure compliance with NCAA and ODAC regulations.
Mentor coaches, recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and lead all athletic department staff.
Be actively involved in fundraising in cooperation with the Office of Advancement.
Collaborate strategically with the Office of Admissions to support institutional enrollment goals through recruitment of student-athletes.
Strengthen the SU Athletic Hall of Fame, SU 1875 Club, and SU alumni support.
Oversee the expansion of the Wilkins Athletics & Events Center.
Teach one course a year.
Position Shenandoah’s sports teams to achieve even greater success in the ODAC and bolster opportunities to compete on the NCAA national level.
Improve recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
Reach higher levels of fundraising for athletics.
Support the efforts of the marching band, color guard, club sports, intramural sports, and cheerleaders.
Support the academic studies and career pathways of student-athletes.
