About The Position

The Director of Application Counseling is a critical leadership role responsible for the end-to-end management, training, and quality assurance of our counseling network. Crucially, they will drive initiatives to enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and student outcomes in the Application Counseling work.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from a highly selective institution; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in education, admissions consulting, management consulting, coaching, client services, or another high-performance, client-facing environment.
  • Prior people-management experience, with a demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and hold high standards.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills paired with the ability to execute and operationalize ideas.
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence, particularly when working with high-net-worth families and senior stakeholders.
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and comfort navigating complex or high-stakes situations.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-growing, evolving organization where structure is actively being built.

  • Advanced degrees are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop counselors, including oversight of onboarding, training, performance management, and ongoing professional development.
  • Establish relevant management and quality control infrastructure to establish proactive management structures and support other managers in management work.
  • Improve training oversight and content to help new counselors develop expertise in admissions counseling content and customer experience.
  • Evaluate counselor work directly and troubleshoot family complaints, including review of applications from counselors who escalate their need for additional oversight.
  • Lead special workshops and bootcamps for AC students as well as support programs for counselors.
  • Work with a small caseload of specialized students.
  • Analyze program performance, mentor utilization, and client feedback to inform continuous improvement.
